2022–23 Cymru Premier
The 2022–23 Cymru Premier ( cy, Uwch Gynghrair Cymru 2022–23) (known as the JD Cymru Premier for sponsorship reasons) was the 31st season of the Cymru Premier (formally known as the Welsh Premier League), the highest football league within Wales since its establishment in 1992. The winners (The New Saints, their second consecutive league title win and fifteenth overall) qualified for the 2023–24 UEFA Champions League first qualifying round. The runners-up ( Connah's Quay Nomads), third-placed team (Penybont), and Europa Conference League play-off winners ( Haverfordwest County) qualified for the 2023–24 UEFA Europa Conference League first qualifying round. The bottom two teams ( Airbus UK Broughton and Flint Town United) were relegated to the 2023–24 Cymru North. Cymru Premier
The Cymru Premier, known as the JD Cymru Premier for sponsorship reasons, is the national football league of Wales. It has both professional and semi-professional status clubs and is at the top of the Welsh football league system. Prior to 2002, the league was known as the League of Wales (LoW), but changed its name as part of a sponsorship deal to the Welsh Premier League. The league was rebranded as the Cymru Premier for the 2019–20 season. Formation Original League The league was formed in October 1991 by Alun Evans, Secretary General of the Football Association of Wales (FAW), as he believed that the Welsh international football team was under threat from FIFA. 2023–24 Cymru North
The 2023–24 Cymru North season (also known as the 2023–24 JD Cymru North season for sponsorship reasons) is the fourth season of the second-tier northern region football league in the Welsh football pyramid. The runners-up ( Flint Town United) were promoted to the 2024–25 Cymru Premier (after league winners Holywell Town were refused a promotion licence). The bottom three teams ( Chirk AAA, Llanidloes Town, and Porthmadog) were relegated to either the 2024–25 Ardal NE or 2024–25 Ardal NW. Teams The league consisted of 16 clubs - 11 teams remaining from the previous season, two teams relegated from the 2022–23 Cymru Premier, and three promoted from the Ardal leagues. Airbus UK Broughton and Flint Town United, who are both based in the North, were relegated from the 2022–23 Cymru Premier. The 2022–23 Cymru South season (also known as the 2022–23 JD Cymru South season for sponsorship reasons) was the fourth season of the second-tier Southern region football in Welsh football pyramid. Teams played each other twice on a home and away basis. Llantwit Major were the defending champions from the 2021–22 season but were denied a Tier 1 license, so runners-up Pontypridd Town were promoted in their place. Barry Town United were relegated from the 2021–22 Cymru Premier, returning to the second tier after their five-year spell in the top flight. Abergavenny Town and Pontardawe Town were both promoted as champions of the Ardal SE and Ardal SW respectively, while Ardal SW runners-up Ynyshir Albions defeated Ardal SE runners-up Abertillery Bluebirds in the Ardal Southern play-off to also earn a promotion place. 2021–22 Cymru South
The 2021–22 Cymru South season (also known as the 2021–22 JD Cymru South season for sponsorship reasons) was the third season of the second-tier Southern region football in Welsh football pyramid. Teams will play each other twice on a home and away basis. Swansea University were the defending champions from the 2019–20 season, following the curtailment of the 2020–21 season. Pre-season favourites Ammanford AFC endured a season of struggle, with a three way title race for much of the season between Briton Ferry, Pontypridd Town AFC, and Llantwit Major AFC. After all three clubs lead at some point, Llantwit Major put together an outstanding finish to the season, winning 11 games out of 12 to lift the trophy with a game to spare.
