2022 Canadian Junior Curling Championships
The 2022 New Holland Canadian Junior Curling Championships was held from March 26 to April 1 at the Stratford Rotary Complex in Stratford, Ontario. The winning teams represented Canada at the 2023 World Junior Curling Championships in Füssen, Germany. This was the second time Stratford hosted the Canadian Junior Curling Championships. The first was in 2016 when Manitoba's Matt Dunstone and Nova Scotia's Mary Fay took home the titles. The 2022 event featured eighteen teams on both the men's and women's sides, each split into two pools of nine. The top three teams from each pool at the end of the round robin advanced to the playoff round. Based on results from the 2019 and 2020 events, certain provinces earned two berths to the championship. Alberta, British Columbia, Manitoba, Newfoundland and Labrador, Ontario and Saskatchewan each earned an extra berth on the men's side, while Alberta, Manitoba, Nova Scotia, Ontario and Quebec got two berths on the women's side. Stratford, Ontario
Stratford is a city on the Avon River within Perth County in southwestern Ontario, Canada, with a 2016 population of 31,465 in a land area of . Mary Fay
Mary Fay (born June 7, 1998) is a Canadian curler from Chester, Nova Scotia. Curling career At just 15 years old, Fay and her young rink of Jenn Smith, Karlee Burgess and Janique LeBlanc won the 2014 Nova Scotia Junior women's championship. They were the youngest team to win in 20 years., sending the four-some to the 2014 Canadian Junior Curling Championships to represent Nova Scotia. Despite their youth, the team finished with an 8-2 record, making the playoffs. The team would go on to lose to British Columbia, skipped by Kalia Van Osch in the semi-final, winning a bronze medal. The next year, the Fay rink won their second U21 Nova Scotia Provincials, earning the right to represent Nova Scotia at their second back-to-back Canadian Junior Curling Championship. Matt Dunstone
Matthew Dunstone, nicknamed "the Sheriff" (born June 25, 1995) is a Canadian curler from Kamloops, British Columbia. Career Dunstone won the Canadian Junior Curling Championships in 2013. He represented Canada at the 2013 World Junior Curling Championships, where he won the bronze medal. He was unable to defend his championship at the 2014 Canadian Juniors after losing in the finals of the Manitoba Canola Juniors to Braden Calvert. The next time he would represent Manitoba was in 2016, after winning the 2016 Manitoba Canola Juniors. This earned the Dunstone rink a spot in the 2016 Canadian Juniors where he won his second title after defeating Northern Ontario 11-4 in the final, and represented Canada at the 2016 World Junior Curling Championships, winning a bronze medal. Canadian Junior Curling Championships
The Canadian Junior Curling Championships is an annual curling tournament held to determine the best junior-level curling team in Canada. Junior level curlers must be under the age of 21 as of June 30 in the year prior to the tournament. The event began in 1950 as the National Schoolboys Championship, and all members of a team had to attend the same high school. Efforts to establish the event were led by Ken Watson, Maurice Smith and others. From 1950 to 1957, teams played for the Victor Sifton Trophy. Sifton's newspaper chain was the sponsor of the event during this time. From 1958 to 1975 the event was sponsored by Pepsi and was known as the Pepsi Schoolboys, becoming the Pepsi Juniors in 1976. The 2023 New Holland Canadian Junior Curling Championships were held from March 26 to April 2 at the Aréna Jacques Laperrière and the Club de Curling Noranda in Rouyn-Noranda, Quebec. The winners will represent Canada at the 2023 World Junior-B Curling Championships where they will need to finish in the top three to qualify for the 2024 World Junior Curling Championships in Lohja, Finland. This was the third time Rouyn-Noranda played host the Canadian Junior Curling Championships.
