2022 Angel City FC Season
The 2022 Angel City FC season was the team's inaugural season as a professional women's soccer team. Angel City FC plays in the National Women's Soccer League (NWSL), the top tier of women's soccer in the United States. Team Management and staff On August 15, 2022, Angel City FC promoted vice president of player development and operations Angela Hucles to general manager, taking on some of the roles previously held by sporting director Eniola Aluko. Roster On loan Player statistics Angel City has used a total of 23 players during the 2022 season, and there have been 9 different goal scorers. There have also been five squad members who have not made a first-team appearance in the campaign: three goalkeepers, Sarah Gorden and MA Vignola, who have long term injuries. Angel City Football Club is a National Women's Soccer League expansion team that began play in 2022. The team is based in Los Angeles, California, and was announced on July 21, 2020. The team has many high-profile owners, including Becky G, Natalie Portman, Eva Longoria, Mia Hamm, and Serena Williams. Portland Thorns FC
The Portland Thorns FC is an American professional women's soccer team based in Portland, Oregon. Established in 2012, the team began play in 2013 in the then-eight-team National Women's Soccer League (NWSL), which receives support from the United States Soccer Federation (USSF). The Portland franchise is owned by Peregrine Sports LLC, which also owns the Portland Timbers. Alongside the Thorns, the Houston Dash and Orlando Pride are other NWSL teams with Major League Soccer affiliations. Christen Annemarie Press (born December 29, 1988) is an American soccer player for Angel City FC of the National Women's Soccer League (NWSL) and the United States national team. She first appeared for the United States national team during an international friendly against Scotland on February 9, 2013. She has made 155 appearances for her country and is currently ninth all-time with 64 goals scored. Press was the recipient of the Hermann Trophy in 2010 and holds the all-time scoring and assists records at Stanford Cardinal. Following her collegiate career, Press was selected fourth overall by the Washington Freedom in the 2011 WPS Draft, where she was named WPS Rookie of the Year. Mary Alice Vignola (born February 11, 1998) is an American professional soccer player who plays as a defender for Angel City FC in the National Women's Soccer League (NWSL) and the United States national team. Early life Born in Cincinnati, Ohio, Vignola was adopted at birth. She is a biracial African American, and her adoptive parents are white. She has an older brother who is also adopted. Sarah L. Gorden (born September 13, 1992) is an American professional soccer player who plays as a defender for Angel City FC in the NWSL. Early life The daughter of Jeff and Sue Gorden, Sarah Gorden began playing soccer at age four. When she began playing competitively, her speed on the pitch inspired her to join her high school track team. While attending James B. Conant High School she played as a defender for the Eclipse Select Soccer Club. Eniola Aluko (born 21 February 1987) is a football executive, commentator, and former professional player.
