The Sumgayit FK 2021–22 season was Sumgayit's eleventh Azerbaijan Premier League season, and twelfth season in their history. Season events On 14 June, Sumgayit announced the signing of Yusif Nabiyev from Gabala on a one-year contract with the option of an additional year. The following day, 15 June, Sumgayit announced the permanent signing of Eltun Turabov from Sabah to a one-year contract after he'd previously played for Sumgayit on loan the previous season. On 18 June, Tarlan Ahmadli returned to Sumgayit on a one-year contract from Gabala. On 25 June, Sumgayit announced their third signing of the summer from Gabala, with Roman Huseynov joining on a one-year contract. On 17 September, Sumgayit announced the signing of Saeid Bagherpasand to a one-year contract, from Aluminium Arak. On 16 December, Aykhan Abbasov left his role as Head Coach of Sumgayit. Sumgayit FK ( az, "Sumqayıt" futbol klubu, ) is an Azerbaijani football club based in Sumgayit that plays in the Azerbaijan Premier League. History The club was founded in 2010 as Sumgayit FK. In May 2011, the team secured their promotion to Azerbaijan Premier League after getting wildcard place instead of defunct Absheron. After securing promotion to the Premier League, the club based most of their squad on players from Azerbaijan's U-19 and U-17 players. In January 2012, the club announced that its old name was being restored. During 2012–13 season, Sumgayit narrowly avoided relegation to the First Division by finishing 10th in the league. Roman Huseynov ( az, Roman Hüseynov; born on 26 December 1997) is an Azerbaijani football midfielder who last played for Kapaz in the Azerbaijan Premier League. Neftçi Professional Football Club ( az, Neftçi Peşəkar Futbol Klubu), commonly known as Neftçi PFK or simply Neftçi (), is an Azerbaijani football club based in the capital, Baku, that currently plays in the Azerbaijan Premier League, the highest tier of Azerbaijan football. Ethnikos Achna Football Club ( el, Αθλητικός Σύλλογος Εθνικός Άχνας), commonly known as Ethnikos Achna, or simply Ethnikos, is a Cypriot football club based in the village of Achna.
