2021–22 RBL Season
The 2021–22 RBL season is the 1st season of the Rwanda Basketball League under its new name. The season began on March 11, 2022 and ended September 19, 2022. The defending champions REG repeated and won their third league title, after defeating rivals Patriots in the finals. Foreign players The following non-African players played in the RBL in the 2022 season: Regular season The regular season began on March 11 and ended August 14, 2022. The top four teams advanced to the playoffs. The bottom two teams relegate to the Division 2. The Rwandan Amateur Basketball Federation () is the governing body of basketball in Rwanda. It operates the Rwanda national basketball team as well as the top-tier NBL and other amateur leagues. History In 1930, basketball was first brought to Rwanda by catholic priests and the first games were played in high schools in the South Province. After the independence in 1962, new teams were created in the army and from some public institutions. In 1974, the Rwandan Basketball Federation was created and the first national league started three years later. Bush Wamukota
Tom Bush Wamukota (born 28 September 1993) is a Kenyan basketball player who currently plays for Rwanda Basketball League club APR and the Kenya national team. College career Wamukota played two years with the Wichita State Shockers men's basketball team. He was the first Kenyan player to ever play in the Sweet 16 of the NCAA tournament. Professional career In the summer of 2018, he played for Águilas Doradas de Durango in Mexico. In the 2018–19 season, he played with Moroccan club MAS Fes. In 2019, Wamukota played in Tunisia for US Monastir and later JS Kairouan. In September 2020, Wamukota joined Rwandan side Patriots BBC. He won the national championship later that year, before extended his contract until 2023 in January. Kenny Gasana
Kenneth Gasana (born Kenneth Wilson; November 9, 1984) is a Rwandan professional basketball player who currently plays for Bangui Sporting Club of the Road to BAL. Born in the United States, he represents Rwanda internationally. Career Gasana played his final two years of college basketball for Boise State. Gasana started his professional career in 2007. In 2010, Gasana joined Moroccan club Chabab Rif Al Hoceima for one season which was followed by another season at Spaza Sports BC. In the 2014–15 season, he played in Egypt with Gezira. His third team in Morocco was Ittihad Tanger, which he joined in 2018. In 2019, Gasana signed with Rwanda-based REG BBC to play in the Rwandan National Basketball League. In October 2019, he joined the defending champions Patriots BBC. He went on to win the championship in 2019 and 2020 with Patriots. Kendall Gray
Kendall Lamar Gray (born May 5, 1992) is an American-born Rwandan basketball player who currently plays for the Bangui Sporting Club. He played college basketball for Delaware State University, being named the 2014–15 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference Player of the Year, becoming the fourth selection in school history to earn the honor. Early life Gray was born in Merced, California but grew up in Dover, Delaware. He earned three varsity letters while playing at Polytech High School in Woodside, Delaware. In 2010, he led the team to a Henlopen Conference Southern Division Championship. In Gray's his senior season he averaged 15 points, 12 rebounds, and 11 blocks per game. Kigali Arena
BK Arena (formerly known as Kigali Arena until 2022) is an multi-purpose indoor arena in Kigali, Rwanda, used mostly for basketball and volleyball matches. Built and finished in 2019, it hosts sporting events and concerts. It is the biggest indoor arena in East Africa and is located next to the Amahoro Stadium. The arena is regularly used for games of the Rwanda Basketball League (RBL). It was constructed by SUMMA, a Turkish international contractor. In 2021 Kigali Arena signed a contract with Rwandan singer Bruce Melodie a deal of 150 million RWF, as its brand ambassador for the next three years with a shared objective to position the venue as a regional entertainment hub. Pitchou Kambuy Manga
Pitchou Kambuy Manga (born 12 December 1988) is a Congolese basketball player who plays for REG of the Rwanda Basketball League. He also plays for the DR Congo men's national basketball team. Professional career From 2011, Kambuy Manga played for Mazembe and has several appearances in the FIBA Africa Club Champions Cup with the team. In April, Kambuy Manga signed in Spain with CB Prat, Club Joventut Badalona's farm team, but the deal did not manifest as Mazembe asked for a transfer sum. Ntore Habimana
Ntore Habimana (born August 15, 1997) is a Canadian-born Rwandan basketball player for the APR of the Rwanda Basketball League (RBL). He is a member of the Rwanda national team. His position has been described as a point forward. Early life Habimana was born in Mississauga, Ontario to a Rwandan father and Burundian mother, who had moved to Canada in 1994. As a kid, he idolized Vince Carter. College career Habimana played five seasons of U Sports men's basketball for the Wilfrid Laurier Golden Hawks and averaged 10.1 points in his final season. On February 18, 2020, he had a career-high 20 points against the Waterloo Warriors.
