The 2021–22 season was the 55th season in the existence of AZ Alkmaar and the club's 24th consecutive season in the top flight of Dutch football. AZ Alkmaar
Alkmaar Zaanstreek (), better known as AZ Alkmaar or simply AZ (), is a Dutch professional football club from Alkmaar and the Zaan district. The club plays in the Eredivisie, the highest professional football league in the Netherlands, and hosts home matches at the AFAS Stadion. AZ has won the Eredivisie twice, in 1980–81 and 2008–09. In the same season as their first league title, they also reached the UEFA Cup Final, which they lost to Ipswich Town. Karl Jesper Karlsson (born 25 July 1998) is a Swedish professional footballer who plays as a forward for Eredivisie club AZ and the Sweden national team. Club career Early career Karlsson started playing in IF Böljan from the age of four. At the age of 14, he received his first-team debut for the club in Division 4. Kamal Sowah (born 9 January 2000) is a Ghanaian professional footballer who plays as a forward for Belgian Pro League club Standard Liège, on loan from Club Brugge, and the Ghana national team. Zakaria Aboukhlal ( ar, زكريا أبوخلال; born 18 February 2000) is a professional footballer who plays as forward for Ligue 1 club Toulouse. Owen Wijndal (born 28 November 1999) is a Dutch professional footballer who plays as a left-back for Eredivisie club Ajax and the Netherlands national team.
