The 2021 Men's EuroHockey Championship IV was supposed to be the ninth edition of the EuroHockey Championship IV, the fourth level of the men's European field hockey championships organized by the European Hockey Federation. It was scheduled to be held from 1 to 7 August 2021 in Kordin, Paola, Malta. After four teams withdrew from the tournament due to the travel restrictions related to the COVID-19 pandemic the tournament was officially cancelled on 31 May 2021. Qualified teams Participating nations have qualified based on their final ranking from the 2019 competition. Paola, Malta
Paola ( mt, Raħal Ġdid, it, Casal Nuovo, both meaning "New Town") is a town in the South Eastern Region of Malta, with 8,706 inhabitants as of 2019. EuroHockey Championship IV
The EuroHockey Championship IV, formerly known as the EuroHockey Nations Challenge II, is a competition for European national field hockey teams. It is the fourth level of the European field hockey Championships for national teams. For men's national teams this is the lowest tier. There is promotion and relegation. The one or two first ranked teams qualify for the next Men's EuroHockey Championship III and are replaced by the one or two lowest-ranked teams from that tournament. The tournament has been won by seven different teams: Gibraltar has the most titles with two and Denmark, Greece, Hungary, Slovakia, Slovenia and Turkey have all won the tournament once. The most recent edition was held in Helsinki, Finland and was won by Hungary. The next edition was supposed to be held in Kordin, Malta in August 2021 but was cancelled due to the travel restrictions related to the COVID-19 pandemic. Field Hockey
Field hockey is a team sport structured in standard hockey format, in which each team plays with ten outfield players and a goalkeeper. Teams must drive a round hockey ball by hitting it with a hockey stick towards the rival team's shooting circle and then into the goal. The match is won by the team that scores the most goals. Matches are played on grass, watered turf, artificial turf, synthetic field, or indoor boarded surface. The stick is made of wood, carbon fibre, fibreglass, or a combination of carbon fibre and fibreglass in different quantities. The stick has two sides; one rounded and one flat; only the flat face of the stick is allowed to progress the ball. Travel Restrictions Related To The COVID-19 Pandemic
During the COVID-19 pandemic, many countries and regions imposed quarantines, entry bans, or other travel restrictions for citizens of or recent travelers to the most affected areas. The 2019 Men's EuroHockey Championship III was the 8th edition of the men's EuroHockey Championship III, the third level of the European field hockey Championships organized by the European Hockey Federation. It was held from 28 July to 3 August 2019 in Gibraltar. The tournament also served as a qualifier for the 2021 EuroHockey Championship II, with the finalists Croatia and Switzerland qualifying. Croatia won their first EuroHockey Championship III title by defeating Switzerland 5–4 in the final. The hosts Gibraltar won the bronze medal by defeating Portugal 7–2.
