The 2021 Latvian Football Cup was a single elimination association football tournament which began on 27 June 2021. RFS won the cup final 1–0 over Liepāja and earned a place in the first qualifying round of the 2022–23 UEFA Europa Conference League. 2020 Latvian Football Cup
The 2020 Latvian Football Cup was the 26th edition of the football tournament. The competition began on 23 July 2020 and ended on 8 November 2020. RFS were the defending champions, having won the previous year's final over Jelgava 3–2 after extra time. The cup winners qualified for the 2021–22 UEFA Europa League 1st qualifying round. Format 47 teams took part in the competition. Each round was played over single leg and matches took place for 90 minutes, with two halves of 45 minutes. If tied after regular time, 30 minutes of extra time were played, consisting of two periods of 15 minutes. If the score was still leveled after this, the match was decided by a penalty shoot-out in order to decide the winner. No seeding was applied at any round. 2021 Latvian Higher League
The 2021 Latvian Higher League , known as the Optibet Virslīga for sponsorship reasons, is the 30th season of top-tier football in Latvia. The season began on 13 March 2021 and ended 6 November 2021. RFS are the league champions and earned a place in the 2022–23 UEFA Champions League while the second, third and fourth-placed clubs earned a place in the 2022–23 UEFA Europa Conference League. Riga were the defending champions after winning the league for a third consecutive season. Teams The league consists of 8 clubs from the previous season, joined by Noah Jūrmala as champions of the 2020 Latvian First League. Tukums (relegated after one year in the top flight) were relegated after finishing last in the previous season and declined to apply for a license. FK Rīgas Futbola Skola
FK RFS is a professional Latvian football club based in Riga, Latvia. It competes in the Virslīga, the top flight of Latvian football. History RFS were promoted to the Virsliga for 2016 when Skonto FC failed to obtain a license. In 2018, RFS qualified for the UEFA Europa League qualifiers for the first time. In 2019, the club achieved its first-ever honour, the Latvian Cup. It wasn't until 2021–22 that RFS won a European two-legged tie, beating Faroese club KÍ Klaksvík. Valmiera Football Club or shortly Valmiera FC is a Latvian football club, playing in the Virslīga, the highest division of Latvian football. The club is based in the city of Valmiera. By winning the 2017 Latvian First League, the team was promoted to the 2018 Virslīga after a 14-year absence, and won their first title in 2022 Virslīga. Riga Football Club, commonly referred to as Riga FC, is a Latvian football club, founded in 2014. The club is based at the Skonto Stadium in Riga. Since 2016 the club has been playing in the Virslīga. History The club was officially registered in April 2014. The team was established before the 2015 season after a merger of two Riga based teams – ''FC Caramba'' and ''Dinamo Rīga''. FK Metta (also called FK Metta/Latvijas Universitāte from 2007 till the end of 2018 season) is a professional Latvian football club in Riga. As of 2012 they play in the Latvian Higher League. Metta play their home games at Daugava Stadium. Until June 2018, their home venue was the Riga Hanza Secondary School Stadium. FK Spartaks is a Latvian football club that is based in Sloka, Jūrmala. In 2012, they finished 3rd in the Latvian First League championship and after winning the play-offs against JFK Olimps were promoted to the Latvian Higher League. FK Jūrnieks is a Latvian football club based in Riga. It became defunct in 1997. In 2017, the club got reinstated in Latvia's Second League.
