The 2021 Faroe Islands Premier League was the 79th season of top-tier football in the Faroe Islands, and the 17th under the current format. HB were the defending champions, having won their 24th Faroese title in the previous season. Teams Skála (relegated after five years in the top flight) and Argja Bóltfelag (relegated after three years in the top flight) were relegated after last season. Faroe Islands Premier League
The Faroe Islands Premier League (also known as ''Betri deildin menn'' for sponsorship reasons) is the top level of football in the Faroe Islands. It was founded in 1942 as Meistaradeildin, and it is played in current format since 2005, when Premier League replaced 1. deild as the country's top football division. The league is organised by the Faroe Islands Football Association. It is contested by 10 clubs. At the end of every season, two teams are relegated and two promoted from 1. deild. All teams in the league have semi-professional status. As of April 2022, the Faroe Islands Premier League is ranked 44th out of 55 leagues in the UEFA coefficient. Tórshavn
Tórshavn (; lit. "Thor's harbour"), usually locally referred to as simply ''Havn'', is the capital and largest city of the Faroe Islands. It is located in the southern part on the east coast of Streymoy. To the northwest of the city lies the mountain Húsareyn, and to the southwest, the Kirkjubøreyn. They are separated by the Sandá River. The city itself has a population of 13,957 (2022), and the greater urban area has a population of 21,078, including the suburbs of Hoyvik and Argir. Runavík
Runavík is a comparatively urbanised village in Runavík Municipality, Faroe Islands. It lies on the south half of the isle of Eysturoy. Port Founded in 1916, Runavík has an important port, originally used predominantly by fishing boats but now also a key supply base for the North Sea oil industry as well as a trans-shipment port for freight to and from Europe. The harbour underwent development in the late 1990s and can now accommodate cruise ships. Eysturoyartunnilin A massive infrastructure project has been mounted to build an 11 km-long sub-sea tunnel between Runavík and Tórshavn, thereby significantly reducing travel times to the capital. NSÍ Runavík
NSÍ Runavík is a Faroese football club, playing in Runavík on the island of Eysturoy. It was founded 24 March 1957. In 2003 NSÍ participated for the first time on a European stage. In 2007, the club won the Faroe Islands Premier League for the first time. The club has won the Faroe Islands Cup in 1986, 2002 and 2017. Aside from these instances, NSÍ Runavík featured in the 1980, 1985, 1988, 2004 and 2015 tournament finals. The club plays in yellow and black. Their stadium ( Við Løkin) has a capacity of 2,000. It is not approved by UEFA for international play, so Runavík play their UEFA Europa League matches at Tórsvøllur in Tórshavn or Svangaskarð in Toftir. Klaksvík
Klaksvík is the second largest town of the Faroe Islands behind Tórshavn. The town is located on Borðoy, which is one of the northernmost islands (the Norðoyar). It is the administrative centre of Klaksvík municipality. History The first settlement at Klaksvík dates back to Viking times, but it was not until the 20th century that the district merged to form a large, modern Faroese town that became a cultural and commercial centre for the Northern Isles and the Faroe Islands as a whole. Í Fløtugerði
Í Fløtugerði is a association football, football stadium in Fuglafjørður, Faroe Islands. It is currently the home ground of ÍF Fuglafjørður. Its capacity is 1,200, including 360 seats. History On 15 November 1940, ÍF began purchasing land in northern part of Fuglafjørður. In the following years, the club obtained funding from the Fuglafjørður Municipality, municipality and loans, which has resulted in official opening of the stadium in 1956. On 12 August 1979, the record attendance was set. Over 1,500 people gathered around the stadium to watch the match between ÍF and TB Tvøroyri. The hosts won 3–1. Fuglafjørður
Fuglafjørður is a village on Eysturoy's east coast in the Faroe Islands. Its name means "fjord of birds". The village is at the edge of a bay and expands into the surrounding steep hills. The town centre is located close to the harbour and contains most of the shops and services. The harbour in Fuglafjørður is busy, as the town's economy is based on the processing of fish and fish meal. There is fishing-industry, a slip, production of trawl and also oil-depots. In the 1970s there was a terrible stink from the fishing-industry but that has since been solved. Streymnes
Streymnes ( da, Strømnæs) is a village on the eastern coast of the Faroese island of Streymoy in Sunda Municipality. The 2015 population was 270. Its postal code is FO 435. It is near the site of a former Norwegian whaling station active from 1893 to 1927. Streymnes is the northern half of a twin-village situated on both sides of the valley. The villages are divided by the river Stórá. The southern half which is approximately the same size is called Hvalvík. Together the two villages have a population of more than 400 inhabitants. EB/Streymur
EB/Streymur is a Faroe Islands, Faroese semi-professional association football, football club based in Streymnes and Eiði. The club was founded in 1993, as result of the merger between Eiðis Bóltfelag, EB and Ítróttarfelagið Streymur, Streymur. They have won the Faroe Islands Premier League twice and the Faroe Islands Cup four times. History The club is a result of a merger in 1993 between Eiðis Bóltfelag, who were founded on 23 February 1913, and Ítróttarfelagid Streymur, Streymur, founded in 1976. Prior to the merger, both Eiðis Bóltfelag, EB Eiði and Streymur usually played their football in the second or third division. After the merger in 1993, the team still resided in the lower divisions, but this soon changed.
