2021 English Cricket Season
The 2021 English cricket season began on 4 April and finished on 3 October 2021. It was the 121st season in which the County Championship has been an official competition and featured First-Class, List-A and Twenty20 cricket competitions throughout England and Wales. The 18 first-class counties competed in the 2021 County Championship, One-Day Cup and T20 Blast competitions, whilst the women's regional teams competed for the Rachael Heyhoe Flint Trophy and the inaugural Charlotte Edwards Cup. The season also saw the inaugural season of The Hundred, which was not held due to the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020. The season also had the 2021 Bob Willis Trophy, which was played as a five-day final between the teams that finished first and second in County Championship Division One. 2021 County Championship
The 2021 County Championship (referred to as the LV= Insurance County Championship for sponsorship reasons) was the 121st cricket County Championship season in England and Wales. For the first phase of the tournament, the teams were split into three groups of six, with each side playing ten matches. The top two teams from each group progressed into Division One for the second phase of the competition, with the other teams progressing to Divisions Two and Three. The team that finished top of Division One became the county champions; and the top two teams from Division One contested a five-day match at Lord's for the Bob Willis Trophy. On 17 December 2020, the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) confirmed all the fixtures for the tournament. After completion of the group stage on 14 July 2021, the ECB confirmed the fixtures for the division stage on 22 July 2021. Northern Diamonds
Northern Diamonds are a women's cricket team that represent the traditional areas of the North East and Yorkshire, one of eight regional hubs in English domestic women's cricket. They play their home matches at Headingley, the Riverside, Roseworth Terrace and North Marine Road. They are captained by Hollie Armitage and coached by former England cricketer Danielle Hazell. The team carries over elements of the WCSL team Yorkshire Diamonds, and are partnered with Yorkshire, Durham and Northumberland. The Diamonds reached the final of the first three tournaments that they competed in, but lost each time. They won their first title in 2022, winning the Rachael Heyhoe Flint Trophy. Birmingham Phoenix are a franchise 100-ball cricket side based in the city of Birmingham. The team represents the historic counties of Warwickshire and Worcestershire in the newly founded The Hundred competition, which began its inaugural season on 21 July 2021, during the English and Welsh cricket season. Both the men's and women's sides play at Edgbaston. The 2021 season of The Hundred was the inaugural season of The Hundred, a professional franchise 100-ball cricket tournament involving eight men's and women's teams located in major cities across England and Wales. The tournament was run by the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) and took place for the first time, having been delayed a year due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Craig Miles
Craig Neil Miles (born 20 July 1994) is an English cricketer who currently plays for Warwickshire. A right-handed batsman and right-hand medium pace bowler he made his first-class debut for Gloucestershire against Northamptonshire in May 2011. In doing so, at 16, he became the fourth youngest player to represent Gloucestershire in a first-class match. Miles signed a three-year contract for Gloucestershire in November 2010, but did not become a full-time professional player until 2013. He was born at Swindon in Wiltshire and studied at South Gloucestershire and Stroud College. County career Miles made his first-class debut for Gloucestershire in May 2011 against Northamptonshire as a 16-year-old. Will Rhodes
William Michael Harry Rhodes (born 2 March 1995) is a cricketer who plays for Warwickshire, having formerly played for Yorkshire and for the England Under-19 cricket team. He is an all-rounder. Rhodes made both his List A and Twenty20 debuts for Yorkshire during the 2013 English cricket season. In the same year, he also made 102 for England Under 19s against the Pakistan Under-19 cricket team. Bryony Frances Smith (born 12 December 1997) is an English cricketer who plays for Surrey, South East Stars and Trent Rockets. A right-handed batter who bowls off spin, she made her county debut for Surrey in 2014. She has played three T20Is and one ODI for England, making her debut in 2018. Early life Smith was born on 12 December 1997 in Sutton, Greater London. She has worked as a secondary school teacher. Evelyn Jones (born 8 August 1992) is an English cricketer who currently captains Central Sparks, as well as playing for Warwickshire and Birmingham Phoenix. She plays primarily as a left-handed opening batter, as well as bowling left-arm medium.
