2020–2021 Khabarovsk Krai Protests
Protests began on 11 July 2020 in Khabarovsk Krai, Russia, in support of the then governor, Sergei Furgal, after his arrest. Subsequently, a few protests in support of Furgal also took place in other cities including Novosibirsk, Vladivostok and Omsk. Background In September 2018, Sergei Furgal won Khabarovsk Krai's gubernatorial election, beating the incumbent from the United Russia party in a landslide victory. The ''Financial Times'' reported that "voters who flocked to Mr Furgal say they did so not for his or his party's distinct policies, but as a protest vote against the United Russia incumbent." Khabarovsk Krai ( rus, Хабаровский край, r=Khabarovsky kray, p=xɐˈbarəfskʲɪj kraj) is a federal subject (a krai) of Russia. It is geographically located in the Russian Far East and is a part of the Far Eastern Federal District. Legislative Duma Of Khabarovsk Krai
The Legislative Duma of Khabarovsk Krai (russian: Законодательная дума Хабаровского края) is the regional parliament of Khabarovsk Krai, a federal subject of Russia. The Duma consists of 36 deputies elected for a term of five years. 24 deputies are elected by single-member constituencies and another 12 deputies are elected in party lists. History Elections were last held on 8 September 2019. Governor Sergei Furgal's party, LDPR, won by a landslide in the election, gaining 27 seats (30 total) and therefore a supermajority, while the ruling party, United Russia, lost 28 seats and its supermajority. Mikhail Vladimirovich Degtyarev (russian: Михаи́л Влади́мирович Дегтярёв; born 10 July 1981) is a Russian politician serving as Governor of Khabarovsk Krai since 24 September 2021. He has been a member of the State Duma, representing the Liberal Democratic Party, since the 2011 parliamentary election. He is also Vice Chairman of the State Duma Committee on Science and High Technology.
