2020 WNBL Finals
The 2020 WNBL Finals was the postseason tournament of the WNBL's 2020 season. The Canberra Capitals were the two-time defending champions, but were defeated in the Semi-Finals by Melbourne. The Southside Flyers won the Grand Final, defeating the Townsville Fire, 99–82. The Flyers took home the franchise's fourth WNBL title overall, this being their first since rebranding as ''Southside''. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, a condensed season was held in a North Queensland hub. The season was originally ''2020–21'' and would be traditionally played over several months across the summer, however this season's scheduling has been amended. The six-week season saw Townsville, Cairns and Mackay host a 52-game regular season fixture, plus a four game Finals series (2 x semi-finals, preliminary final and grand final). Southside Flyers
The Southside Flyers are a professional women's basketball team competing in the Women's National Basketball League ( WNBL). The club is based in Dandenong, Melbourne, Victoria. The team was founded as the Dandenong Rangers, however before the 2019–20 WNBL season began the team was rebranded to the Southside Flyers, adopting a new logo, colour scheme and nickname. The team also transitioned owners at this time. Historically, they have been one of the more successful franchises in league history, regularly making the playoffs, but have struggled over the past two years to make the grand final, falling short in the preliminary final stage. They are strong rivals with the cross-town Melbourne Boomers. Liz Cambage
Elizabeth Folake Cambage (born 18 August 1991) is an Australian professional basketball player who last played for the Los Angeles Sparks of the Women's National Basketball Association (WNBA). Cambage currently holds the WNBA single-game scoring record with her 53-point performance against the New York Liberty on 17 July 2018. Nadeen Payne (born 7 June 1993) is an Australian professional basketball player. She currently plays for the Townsville Fire in the WNBL. Career WNBL Payne began her WNBL career with the Australian Institute of Sport. She would then return home and play for her home side, Townsville Fire. This was followed by two seasons with the Adelaide Lightning. After a year away from the game, Payne returned with the new look South East Queensland Stars. Brittany Smart (born May 28, 1985) is an American professional basketball player. Early career High school Smart attended 3 different high schools in the Ohio area, ending her high school career at Shawnee High School, Springfield Ohio. Her father, Mike Smart, coached her throughout her high school career. She made the 1st-Team-All-Conference for all four years and led her team to the State Championships.
