2020 Puerto Rican Municipal Elections
The 2020 Puerto Rican municipal election was held on November 3, 2020, to elect the mayors of the Municipalities of Puerto Rico, 78 municipalities of Puerto Rico, concurrently with the election of the Governor of Puerto Rico, Governor, the Resident Commissioner of Puerto Rico, Resident Commissioner, the Senate of Puerto Rico, Senate, and the House of Representatives of Puerto Rico, House of Representatives. The winners were elected to a four-year term from January 3, 2021, to January 3, 2025. While the Popular Democratic Party (Puerto Rico), Popular Democratic Party kept most of the municipalities, its majority went down from 45 to 41. A total of 26 municipalities flipped parties, including many party strongholds, like Aguadilla (32 years under New Progressive Party (Puerto Rico), PNP) and Humacao (20 years under Popular Democratic Party (Puerto Rico), PPD). Lornna J. Soto Villanueva (born May 27, 1970) is a Puerto Rican politician affiliated with the New Progressive Party (PNP). She is the current mayor of Canóvanas, succeeding her father, José "Chemo" Soto in 2014. Puerto Rico Ombudsman
The Puerto Rico Ombudsman (In Spanish also ) is a government position created by statute in 1977 during the administration of Governor Carlos Romero Barceló to provide citizens with an office that could receive and investigate complaints regarding the proper functioning of government agencies and the level of service to the public. The Ombudsman is appointed by the Governor of Puerto Rico to a ten-year term and requires the advice and consent of both the Senate and the House of Representatives of Puerto Rico. The Ombudsman's salary is equal to that of a Court of Appeals judge, currently $105,000 per year. In 2020 Puerto Rico governor Wanda Vázquez Garced nominated Edwin Garcia Feliciano as Ombudsman. William Edgardo Miranda Torres, also known as "Willito", is a Puerto Rican politician and current mayor of Caguas.
