2020 Parti Québécois Leadership Election
The 2020 Parti Québécois leadership election was held on 9 October 2020, to replace Jean-François Lisée, who resigned on 1 October 2018 after leading the Parti Québécois to a third-place finish in the 2018 Quebec general election and failing to be re-elected in his own riding. Paul St-Pierre Plamondon was elected on the third ballot with 56% of the vote. The election was originally scheduled for 19 June but was postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic in Quebec. Background On 1 October 2018, the Parti Québécois came in third in the Quebec general election, winning only ten seats and 17% of the popular vote, an all-time low. Paul St-Pierre Plamondon
Paul St-Pierre Plamondon (; often identified by his initials: PSPP; born February 17, 1977) is a Canadian lawyer, television columnist and politician. He has been the leader of the Parti Québécois since October 9, 2020. He represents Camille-Laurin in the National Assembly of Quebec. Education Paul St-Pierre Plamondon began his college studies at Collège André-Grasset and graduated in 1997. He holds a BA in Civil and Common Law from McGill University (2001), an MBA from Oxford University (2006), and a Certificate in International Law from Lund University (2001). Early career In 2003, he was a volunteer prosecutor for the Permanent Assembly of Human Rights in Sucre, Bolivia. In 2005, he worked with the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) in Belgium. 2015 Parti Québécois Leadership Election
The 2015 Parti Québécois leadership election was held from May 13 to May 15, 2015 as a result of the resignation of Parti Québécois leader Pauline Marois after the defeat of her government in the April 7, 2014 provincial election. Procedure The election was conducted using a one member, one vote formula. Each member of the Parti Quebecois was allowed to vote by phone or on the web from May 13 until May 15. If there is not a majority for a candidate (50% +1) on the first ballot, there will be a run-off ballot between the two candidates who had the most votes on the first ballot. If a second ballot was required, it would have been held from May 20 until May 22. To be nominated, a candidate needed to collect 2,000 signatures aggregated from 50 ridings, in 10 regions and pay $20,000 to be listed on the first ballot. Alexandre Cloutier (born September 1, 1977) is a Canadians, Canadian politician and lawyer. He was a member of National Assembly of Quebec for the Riding (division), riding of Lac-Saint-Jean (provincial electoral district), Lac-Saint-Jean in the Saguenay–Lac-Saint-Jean region from 2007 to 2018, representing the Parti Québécois. Beloeil—Chambly
Beloeil—Chambly is a federal electoral district in Quebec. It encompasses a portion of Quebec formerly included in the electoral district of Chambly—Borduas. Beloeil—Chambly was created by the 2012 federal electoral boundaries redistribution and was legally defined in the 2013 representation order. It came into effect upon the call of the 42nd Canadian federal election, which took place on 19 October 2015. Profile The NDP did well against the Bloc in the region in the 2011 election, when results are applied to the new riding's boundaries. There was little variation in support for most parties from one part of the riding to another. Yves-François Blanchet
Yves-François Blanchet (; born April 16, 1965) is a Canadian politician who has served as leader of the Bloc Québécois (BQ) since 2019. He has been the Member of Parliament (MP) for Beloeil—Chambly since the 2019 election. Before federal politics, Blanchet was in provincial politics, serving as a Member of the National Assembly (MNA) for the Parti Québécois (PQ) from 2008 until his defeat in the 2014 election.
