2020 IKF European Korfball Championship First Round
The 2020 IKF European Korfball Championship First Round was held in Lviv, Ukraine from 1 to 3 November 2019. The tournament served as the first round of the 2020 IKF European Korfball Championships to be held in the Poland in 2020, with both the winner and runner-up qualifying for the 2020 IKF European Korfball B-Championship. Turkey and Switzerland qualified on 3 November 2019 as they won their semi-final matches against Greece and Ukraine respectively. Later that same day, Turkey beat Switzerland to win the tournament. Participating teams Seven teams participated in the tournament: Armenia, Belarus, Greece, Sweden, Switzerland, Turkey and Ukraine. Group stage Two groups (A and B) were drawn, four teams in group A and three teams in group B, with each team playing the other teams in their group once. Korfball In Ukraine
Korfball ( nl, korfbal) is a ball sport, with similarities to netball and basketball. It is played by two teams of eight players with four female players and four male players in each team. The objective is to throw a ball into a netless basket that is mounted on a high pole. The sport was invented by Dutch school teacher Nico Broekhuysen in 1902. In the Netherlands there are approximately 500 clubs and more than 90,000 people playing korfball. The sport is also played in Belgium and Taiwan, and in nearly 70 other countries. European Korfball Championship
European Korfball Championship or European Korfball A-Championship is a korfball competition for European national teams organized by the International Korfball Federation. It was played every four years from 1998 until 2014 and then moved to a tournament every two years, starting from 2016. The number of participated teams has varied between 8 and 16. The Netherlands national korfball team has won each edition. History From 2005 until 2013, the IKF organized the Korfball European Bowl for nations which had failed to qualify for the European Korfball Championship. 2021 IKF European Korfball B-Championship
The 2021 European Korfball B-Championship was held in Wrocław, Poland from 4 to 9 October 2021. The tournament was originally supposed to be played from 5 to 10 October 2020, but was postponed following COVID-19 measures. Qualified teams Group stage The eight teams were divided into two groups of four. The first two of each group advanced to the main bracket. The last two of each group continued in the consolidation bracket to determine a full ranking of 9th to 16th place.
