2019–20 MPBL Season
The 2019–2020 MPBL season, known as the MPBL Lakan Season or Chooks-to-Go MPBL Lakan Season for sponsorship reasons, was the third season of the Maharlika Pilipinas Basketball League and the second full season with a national scope. It was officially opened June 12, 2019 at the Mall of Asia Arena, Pasay, which coincided with the Philippine Independence Day. From 26 teams in the last conference, the third season featured 31 team. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic in the Philippines, the season was suspended on March 11, 2020, prior to the deciding games of the Division Finals. It resumed almost a year later, on March 10, 2021, in a bubble set-up in Subic, Zambales. It ended on March 21, 2021, with Davao Occidental Tigers winning the championship against the San Juan Knights after four games in a best-of-five championship series, three games to one. Maharlika Pilipinas Basketball League
The Maharlika Pilipinas Basketball League (MPBL) is a men's professional basketball league in the Philippines. History Manny Pacquiao launched the Maharlika Pilipinas Basketball League on August 29, 2017, starting off as a semi-professional league. According to Pacquiao, the league is not intended to be a competitor to the Philippine Basketball Association, the country's top professional basketball league. The MPBL was intended to feature both a regional commercial and barangay-level league with teams on the commercial side to have a home locality in addition to a corporate sponsor. In the first months, the league hosted teams from Luzon with future plans to expand to accommodate teams based in Visayas and Mindanao like the defunct Metropolitan Basketball Association. Parañaque Patriots
The Parañaque Patriots are a Filipino professional basketball team based in Parañaque. The team currently competes in the Maharlika Pilipinas Basketball League (MPBL) as one of 11 active teams based in Metro Manila. Parañaque is also one of four teams based in the Southern Manila District, playing their home games at Olivarez College Coliseum. The team is one of the MPBL's charter teams during the league's 2018 season. The team is currently owned by the City Government of Parañaque and its vice mayor Joan Villafuerte. Philip Cezar
Philip Dudley Cezar (born December 1, 1952) is a Filipino former basketball coach, player and politician. Known by the monikers "Mr. Stretch", "''Tapal'' King" and "The Scholar", he was part of the fabled Crispa Redmanizers ballclub of the Philippine Basketball Association that won two Grand Slams in 1976 and 1983. Chris Gavina
Christian Gavina (born January 27, 1979) is a Filipino professional basketball coach. He served as the head coach of the Taichung Suns in the T1 League. Early life and college career Gavina was born in the Philippines and migrated to Jersey City, New Jersey when he was three years old. He played college basketball for the Stevens Institute of Technology in Hoboken, New Jersey. He finished second in all-time scoring for the school and have his jersey number retired after his graduation in 2001. After graduation, he worked as a formulation chemist for L'Oreal from 2004 to 2008 and then moved back to the Philippines to pursue a career in basketball. Leandro "Leo" Isaac (born February 2, 1961) is a Filipino former basketball player, commentator and former head coach of the Blackwater Elite in the Philippine Basketball Association. College career He played for the Mapua Cardinals in the NCAA from 1978 to 1981 and was voted MVP for the 1981 NCAA Men's Basketball Championship. The Batangas City Embassy Chill is a professional basketball team currently competing in the Maharlika Pilipinas Basketball League (MPBL) and the Filbasket. Jong Uichico
Joseph Enrique Uichico (born July 15, 1962), better known as Jong Uichico, is a Filipino professional basketball coach who last coached the Bataan Risers in the Maharlika Pilipinas Basketball League. Uichico is a former Philippine national team Youth member and a former player and head coach of the La Salle Green Archers in the UAAP before replacing Ron Jacobs as SMB coach in 1999.
