2019–20 Ekstraklasa
The 2019–20 Ekstraklasa (also known as PKO Ekstraklasa due to sponsorship reasons) was the 94th season of the Polish Football Championship, the 86th season of the highest tier domestic division in the Polish football league system since its establishment in 1927 and the 12th season of the Ekstraklasa under its current title. The league was operated by the Ekstraklasa SA. The regular season was played as a round-robin tournament. A total of 16 teams participated, 14 of which competed in the league during the previous season, while the remaining two were promoted from the 2018–19 I liga. It is the third Ekstraklasa season to use VAR. The season started on 19 July 2019 and concluded on 19 July 2020 (the fixtures were announced on 3 June 2019 and revised on 13 May 2020 due to the outbreak of COVID-19 pandemic). Poland Ekstraklasa (), meaning "Extra Class" in Polish, named PKO Ekstraklasa since the 2019–20 season due to its sponsorship by PKO Bank Polski, is the top Polish professional league for men's association football teams. Contested by 18 clubs, operating a system of promotion and relegation with the I liga, seasons start in July, and end in May or June the following year. Teams play a total of 34 games each. Lechia Gdańsk () is a Polish football club based in Gdańsk. The club was founded in 1945 by people expelled from Lwów, who were supporters of Poland's oldest football team Lechia Lwów, founded in 1903. The club's name comes from Lechia, a poetic name for Poland, and is a continuation of the name used by the club based in Lwów. The 1927 Liga was the 7th edition of the Polish Football Championship (6th completed season ended with the selection of a winner) and the 1st season of the Liga (now Ekstraklasa), the top Polish professional league for association football clubs. The league was operated by the ''Polska Liga Piłki Nożnej'' (PLPN). The champions were Wisła Kraków, who won their 1st Polish title. Competition modus The season started on 3 April 1927 and concluded on 13 November 1927 (spring-autumn league). The season was played as a round-robin tournament.
