2019 SailGP Championship
The 2019 SailGP Championship was the first season of the SailGP championship, and was won by the Australian team. Entries The series had six teams enter, all of which competed in all rounds. Calendar The season was contested over five rounds, of which all but one were won by the Australian team. Season Round 1: Sydney Round 2: San Francisco Round 3: New York Round 4: Cowes Round 5: Marseilles Results Points were awarded per race, with 10 points for the winner, 9 points for second place, 8 points for third, and so on. Each event hosted multiple races, with the two highest scoring teams after each round facing off one-on-one. The winner of that final race won the event. The two highest scoring teams at the end of the season competed in Marseille with the winning team awarded the championship. F50 (catamaran)
The F50 is a one-design foiling catamaran used in the SailGP race series. The F50s are adapted from the AC50s used in the America's Cup, with modifications including new control systems and modular wingsails. The F50s are one of the fastest racing classes in history, with a predicted top speed of 52.2 knots (96.6 km/h, 60 mph); the current F50 speed record, achieved by the France SailGP Team at the Range Rover France Sail Grand Prix in 2022, stands at 53.96 knots (99.94 km/h, 62.10 mph). Three AC50s from the 2017 America's Cup were converted to comply with the F50 one-design rule to create the new SailGP fleet racing circuit. Cowes
Cowes () is an English seaport town and civil parish on the Isle of Wight. Cowes is located on the west bank of the estuary of the River Medina, facing the smaller town of East Cowes on the east bank. The two towns are linked by the Cowes Floating Bridge, a chain ferry. Rome Kirby is an American sailor who has competed in the Volvo Ocean Race and multiple America's Cups. Kirby is a native of Newport, Rhode Island. His father, Jerry Kirby, has sailed in three Volvo Ocean Races and six America's Cups. They are believed to be the first father and son to win the America's Cup. Kirby was an alternate for Puma Racing, supporting '' Il Mostro'' during the 2008–09 Volvo Ocean Race. He then sailed with Puma Racing on '' Mar Mostro'' during the 2011–12 Volvo Ocean Race. He was the youngest sailor in the six-boat fleet. Kirby then joined Oracle Racing and sailed on '' Oracle Team USA 17'' as a trimmer, when it successfully defended the 2013 America's Cup. 2021–22 SailGP Championship
The 2021–22 SailGP Championship was the second season of the SailGP championship. Originally due to be contested in 2020, the season was postponed to 2021 after the first round in Sydney due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic and was then extended into the early months of 2022. The championship was again won by the Australian team. New Zealand was the inaugural winner of the Impact League. Entries Team changes After only one season, China left the championship. Denmark and Spain joined the championship in Sydney, while New Zealand entered in Bermuda. Calendar Although the opening round in Sydney proceeded as planned, results from the race were declared void upon the postponement of the season until 2021. Nine races were expected in the expanded calendar, and eight were announced before the addition of a new Sydney round.
