2019 Nordic Junior World Ski Championships
The FIS Nordic Junior and U23 World Ski Championships 2019 took place in Lahti, Finland from 19 January to 27 January 2019. This was the 42nd Junior World Championships and the 14th Under-23 World Championships in nordic skiing. This was the first championship where women compete in nordic combined. Ayane Miyazaki of Japan became the first female junior world champion by winning the normal hill/5 kilometre event on 23 January 2019. Lahti
Lahti (; sv, Lahtis) is a city and municipality in Finland. It is the capital of the region of Päijänne Tavastia (Päijät-Häme) and its growing region is one of the main economic hubs of Finland. Lahti is situated on a bay at the southern end of lake Vesijärvi about north-east of the capital city Helsinki, south-west of the Heinola town and east of Hämeenlinna, the capital of the region of Tavastia Proper (Kanta-Häme). Monika Skinder (born 19 November 2001) is a Polish cross-country skier. She competed at the 2022 Winter Olympics, in Women's 10 kilometre classical, Women's sprint, and Women's 4 × 5 kilometre relay. Life and career She was born on 19 November 2001 in Tomaszów Lubelski, Lublin Voivodeship, Poland. She represents the MULKS Grupa Oscar Tomaszów Lubelski sports club. On 5 January 2016, she made her debut start at an international-level FIS event in cross-country skiing in Štrbské Pleso, Slovakia, where she claimed second place. At the 2018 Junior World Championships, she won the silver medal in the sprint. She made her World Cup debut on 3 March 2017 in Lahti, she finished in 55th place in the sprint event. Kristine Stavås Skistad (born 8 February 1999) is a Norwegian cross-country skier, junior world champion and participant in the FIS Cross-Country World Cup. August "Gus" Schumacher (born July 25, 2000) is an American cross-country skier. In 2020, Schumacher became the first American to win a gold medal in an individual race at the Junior World Ski Championships. He competed in the 30 kilometre skiathlon at the 2022 Winter Olympics. Schumacher won the Men's 10 km freestyle race at the 2024 Stifel Loppet Cup in Minneapolis on February 18, 2024. His win marked the first time an American male skier had won an individual distance event since Bill Koch in 1983. Early life Schumacher was born in Madison, Wisconsin and grew up in Anchorage, Alaska. He learned to ski as soon as he could walk, using strap-on skis in his backyard.
