2019 Melbourne Darts Masters
The 2019 Melbourne Darts Masters was the third staging of the tournament by the Professional Darts Corporation, and was the fourth entry in the 2019 World Series of Darts. The tournament featured 16 players (eight PDC players facing eight regional qualifiers) and was held at the Melbourne Arena in Melbourne, Australia from 16–17 August 2019. Peter Wright was the defending champion after defeating Michael Smith 11–8 in the 2018 final, but lost 8–0 to Michael van Gerwen in the semi-finals. Van Gerwen would go on to win his first Melbourne title by defeating Daryl Gurney 8–3 in the final. Prize money The total prize fund was £60,000. Melbourne Arena
John Cain Arena is a multi-purpose sports and entertainment arena located within Melbourne Park in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia. It is the second-largest venue and show court for the Australian Open, the first Grand Slam professional tennis tournament held each calendar year. The arena also hosts various other sporting and entertainment events throughout the year. The arena has sometimes been dubbed "The People's Court" during Australian Open matches, due to its accessiblity for Australian Open patrons with a ground pass (i.e. the cheapest form of ticketing available) and the close proximity of spectators to the players, with the arena developing a reputation for being an incredibly passionate venue with a terrific atmosphere, particularly when Australians are playing on the court. Raymond Van Barneveld
Raymond van Barneveld (born 20 April 1967) is a Dutch professional darts player. Nicknamed Barney, although originally known as The Man, he is one of the most successful darts players in history. Van Barneveld is a five-time World Darts Champion (four-time BDO and one-time PDC), a two-time UK Open Champion and a former winner of the Las Vegas Desert Classic, the Grand Slam of Darts and the Premier League. World Series Of Darts
The World Series of Darts is a series of darts tournaments organised by the Professional Darts Corporation. Beginning in 2013, the World Series has comprised between two and seven tournaments across the world, where a mixture of the top-ranked PDC players take on local qualifiers in a knockout format. Since 2015, there has been a finals tournament held annually in November at the Braehead Arena in Glasgow, Scotland, although in 2018, it moved to the Multiversum Schwechat in Vienna, Austria, and moved again to the AFAS Live in Amsterdam, Netherlands in 2019, then to the Salzburgarena, Salzburg in 2020. Haupai Puha (born 12 February 1985) is a New Zealand professional darts player who plays in Professional Darts Corporation (PDC) events. Darts career Puha qualified for 2 2018 World Series of Darts events in Australia and New Zealand as the number 2 ranked player in the DPNZ rankings. He would lose in the first round of both events to Kyle Anderson in Auckland and to Rob Cross in Melbourne. He made his first PDC major appearance at the 2019 World Cup of Darts in Hamburg together with Cody Harris. They beat Lithuania and South Africa to reach the quarter-finals, eventually losing to Japan. Puha also qualified for all three World Series events in Australia and New Zealand in 2019. Timothy "Tim" Pusey (born 26 August 1992) is an Australian professional darts player who plays in the Professional Darts Corporation (PDC) events. Career A patient care assistant by trade, Pusey has mainly played on the Dartplayers Australia (DPA) Tour. His first big exposure was qualifying for all 3 2018 World Series of Darts events in Australia and New Zealand as the number 1 ranked player in the DPA rankings. Damon Heta (born 10 August 1987) is an Australian professional darts player who plays in Professional Darts Corporation (PDC) events. He won the Brisbane Darts Masters in 2019 and also, in pair with Simon Whitlock, World Cup of Darts in 2022. His nickname is "The Heat", a play on letters within his surname. Corey Patrick Cadby (born 18 March 1995) is an Australian professional darts player who plays in Professional Darts Corporation (PDC) events. He was the 2016 World Youth champion. Career A native of Tasmania, Cadby began competing in Darts Players Australia (DPA) events in 2016 after relocating to Melbourne. Noel James Kyle Anderson (14 September 1987 – 24 August 2021) was an Australian professional darts player who played within the Professional Darts Corporation (PDC) from 2012 to 2021. He won the 2017 Auckland Darts Masters tournament. Career He started playing darts at the age of six and had competed in tournaments since he was nine. He first became interested in the game watching his father play. Anderson was an Aboriginal man of Noongar origin.
