The 2019 League of Ireland Cup Final was the final match of the 2019 League of Ireland Cup, called the EA Sports Cup for sponsorship purposes, a knock-out association football competition contested annually by clubs affiliated with the League of Ireland. It took place on 14 September 2019 at the Ryan McBride Brandywell Stadium in Derry, and was contested by Dundalk and Derry City. Dundalk won 6–5 in a penalty shoot-out, following a 2–2 draw after extra-time. Background The League Cup was the first trophy of the 2019 League of Ireland season. The two sides had met three times in the League already, with two draws and one win for Dundalk, while Dundalk had won a second round FAI Cup tie 3–2 after extra-time. The 2019 League of Ireland Cup, also known for sponsorship reasons as the 2019 EA Sports Cup, was the 46th season of the League of Ireland's secondary knockout competition. The EA Sports Cup featured teams from the SSE Airtricity League Premier and First Divisions, as well as some intermediate level teams. Dundalk defeated Derry City in the final in a penalty shoot-out, following a 2-2 draw. The competition structure was altered for 2019 with all Premier Division entering at the second round stage. Ally Gilchrist
Ally Gilchrist (born 3 March 1995) is a Scottish professional footballer who plays as a defender for Cork City. He has previously played for St Johnstone, Elgin City, Peterhead, Shamrock Rovers, Derry City and Shelbourne. Career Ally has been in the St Johnstone youth ranks since 2011. During this time he has spent the majority of his career on loan in Scotland's lower leagues, firstly with Elgin City and then with Peterhead. Peter Cherrie (born 1 October 1983) is a Scottish football goalkeeper who plays for Irish side Dundalk . Career Cherrie started his career with Airdrie United. He played one game for them before moving to Ayr United. Cherrie signed for Clyde after impressing in a trial and a subsequent glamour friendly with Manchester United in July 2005, which saw him come up against Ruud van Nistelrooy and Wayne Rooney. Cherrie made his competitive debut for Clyde against Peterhead in the Scottish League Cup in August 2005. Sean Gannon (born 11 July 1991) is an Irish professional footballer who plays as a defender for Shelbourne in the League of Ireland Premier Division. Michael Duffy (born 28 July 1994) is an Irish footballer who plays for League of Ireland Premier Division side Derry City. His previous clubs include Celtic, Alloa Athletic, Dundee & Dundalk. Junior Chukwuemeka Ogedi-Uzokwe also known as Junior (born 3 March 1994) is an English professional footballer who plays as a forward, for NIFL Premiership side Glentoran.
