LA Galaxy
LA Galaxy, also known as the Los Angeles Galaxy, are an American professional soccer club based in the Los Angeles metropolitan area. The Galaxy competes in Major League Soccer (MLS), as a member of the Western Conference. The club began play in 1996 as one of the league's 10 charter members. The Galaxy were founded in 1994 and are owned by Anschutz Entertainment Group (also owners of 50% of the Los Angeles Kings, as well as an interest in the Los Angeles Lakers). In their early years, the club played its home games at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena, California. Since 2003, they have played at Dignity Health Sports Park in Carson, California. 2020 LA Galaxy Season
The 2020 LA Galaxy season was the club's twenty-fifth season of existence, their twenty-fifth in Major League Soccer. On March 12, 2020 the Major League Soccer has suspended all games, for 30 days due to the COVID-19 pandemic in the United States. On March 19, 2020 the suspension was extended with a target return date of May 10. On June 10, 2020, the MLS is Back Tournament was announced, and began on July 8. Favio Enrique Álvarez (born 23 January 1993) is an Argentine professional footballer who plays as an attacking midfielder for Argentine Primera División club Talleres de Córdoba, on loan from Liga MX club UNAM. Career Álvarez began with Torneo Argentino A team Talleres in 2010, he remained there for five years and made eighty-eight appearances before joining Primera División club Defensa y Justicia in 2015. Designated Player Rule
The Designated Player Rule, nicknamed the Beckham Rule, allows Major League Soccer franchises to sign up to three players that would be considered outside their salary cap (either by offering the player higher wages or by paying a transfer fee for the player). The rule, which was adopted ahead of the 2007 MLS season, enables teams to compete for star players in the international football market. The rule is one of two mechanisms by which MLS teams may exceed their salary cap, the other being allocation money. As of December 2019, there have been 209 Designated Players in league history.
