2017 Nepalese Legislative Election
General elections were held in Nepal in two phases on 26 November and 7 December 2017 to elect the 275 members of the fifth House of Representatives, the lower house of the Federal Parliament of Nepal. The election was held alongside the first provincial elections for the seven provincial assemblies. A political deadlock between the governing Nepali Congress and the winning left-wing coalition over the system used to elect the upper house led to delay in forming the new government. Following the announcement of final result by the Election Commission, K.P. Oli of Communist Party of Nepal (Unified MarxistтАУLeninist) was sworn in as Prime Minister on 15 February 2018 by the President according to Article 76 (2) of the constitution. The Commission for Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA; ne, рдЕрдЦреНрддрд┐рдпрд╛рд░ рджреБрд░реБрдкрдпреЛрдЧ рдЕрдиреБрд╕рдиреНрдзрд╛рди рдЖрдпреЛрдЧ) is an apex constitutional body for corruption control for the Government of Nepal. The Constitution of Nepal has empowered CIAA to investigate and probe cases against the persons holding any public office and their associates who are indulged in the abuse of authority by way of corruption. As a constitutional body, the authority vested on CIAA are as per the Article 238 and 239 of the Constitution of Nepal. Prem Kumar Rai is the Chief Commissioner of the Commission for Investigation of Abuse of Authority. The Provincial Assembly of Gandaki Province also known as the Gandaki Province Sabha, (Nepali: рдЧрдгреНрдбрдХреА рдкреНрд░рджреЗрд╢ рд╕рднрд╛) is a unicameral governing and law making body of Gandaki Province, one of the seven provinces in Nepal. The assembly is seated at the provincial capital Pokhara in Kaski District at the Urban Development Training Centre. The assembly has 60 members of whom 36 are elected through first-past-the-post voting and 24 of whom are elected through proportional representation. Rajiv Gurung, known by his criminal alias Deepak Manange ( ne, рджреАрдкрдХ рдордирд╛рдЩреЗ), is a Nepali gangster and politician, who was elected to Gandaki Provincial Assembly in the 2017 elections from Manang (B) constituency as an independent candidate. He became the minister of sports in the provincial government in April 2021. Gurung started out as an extortionist in the tourist district of Thamel in the early 1990s. He made an arch-enemy out of fellow gangster Chakre Milan when he led a gang attack against Milan in 2004. He was convicted of assault in 2008 for a separate incident and sentenced to one year.
