Group A was one of two groups of the 2019 IIHF World Championship. The four best placed teams advanced to the playoff round, while the last placed team was relegated to Division I in 2020. 2019 IIHF World Championship
The 2019 IIHF World Championship was hosted from 10 to 26 May 2019 by Slovakia. It was the second time that Slovakia has hosted the event as an independent country, as was the case in 2011. The host cities were Bratislava and Košice, as announced by the International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF) on 15 May 2015 in Prague, Czech Republic. Finland won their third title by defeating Canada in the final. The Finns had 18 first-timers for the 2019 IIHF World Championship and were widely regarded as an outsider to win any medal at all. Despite this, the Finns won their third World Championship and lost only two games in the tournament (against the USA, and Germany). Russia secured the bronze medal after a penalty-shootout win over the Czech Republic. Alex DeBrincat
Alexander DeBrincat (born December 18, 1997) is an American professional ice hockey Winger (ice hockey), right winger for the Ottawa Senators of the National Hockey League (NHL). He was selected by the Chicago Blackhawks in the second round, 39th overall, of the 2016 NHL Entry Draft. Born in Farmington Hills, Michigan, DeBrincat spent one year at Harrison High School (Michigan), Harrison High School before transferring to Lake Forest Academy in Illinois. Florian Hardy (born February 8, 1985) is a French professional ice hockey goaltender who is currently playing with Les Ducs D’Angers of Ligue Magnus France. Hardy joined Dornbirner on June 24, 2015, after his first season in the DEL with EHC München. Sebastian Dahm (born 28 February 1987) is a Denmark, Danish professional ice hockey goaltender who is currently playing under contract with EC KAC of the ICE Hockey League (ICEHL). Playing career Junior In 2003 Dahm left Denmark and moved to Swedish club, Malmö Redhawks, and played on Malmö's junior teams. In 2005 Dahm was drafted by the Belleville Bulls of the Ontario Hockey League, OHL. He played the 2005–06 season with the Bulls before being traded to the Sarnia Sting in the off-season. Overtime is a method of determining a winner in an ice hockey game when the score is tied after regulation. Martin Marinčin (; born 18 February 1992) is a Slovak professional ice hockey defenceman for HC Oceláři Třinec of the Czech Extraliga (ELH). Michal Krištof (born October 11, 1993) is a Slovak professional ice hockey center playing for HC Sochi of the Kontinental Hockey League (KHL). Krištof made his Liiga debut with Vaasan Sport during the 2014–15 season, playing two games for the team. Tomáš Tatar (; born 1 December 1990) is a Slovak professional ice hockey left winger for the New Jersey Devils in the National Hockey League (NHL). Andrej Sekera
Andrej Sekera (born 8 June 1986) is a Slovak former professional ice hockey defenceman. He played for the Buffalo Sabres, Carolina Hurricanes, Los Angeles Kings, Edmonton Oilers and Dallas Stars of the National Hockey League (NHL). Born and raised in Slovakia, Sekera played in the Slovak Extraliga for Dukla Trenčín before moving to North America to play with the Owen Sound Attack of the Ontario Hockey League (OHL). Erik Černák (born 28 May 1997) is a Slovak professional ice hockey defenceman for the Tampa Bay Lightning of the National Hockey League (NHL).
