2019 FBD Insurance League
The 2019 FBD Insurance League (sometimes referred to as the Connacht SFL) was an inter-county Gaelic football competition in the province of Connacht. All five Connacht county teams participated, but there are no college or university teams. After the 2018 tournament featured a busy schedule with several postponements due to bad weather, the 2019 tournament was a straight knockout with teams playing just one or two games (as opposed to 4 games in the previous year). The competition featured an historic penalty shootout in which Mayo defeated Leitrim by 4-1 to advance to the semi-final after the teams could not be separated following seventy minutes of play. Competition format The competition was a straight knockout. Drawn games went a penalty shoot-out without the playing of extra-time. This occurred in Mayo v Leitrim. Anthony Cunningham
Anthony Cunningham (born 16 June 1965) is a former hurler who has since managed various Gaelic football and hurling teams. He was manager of the Galway county hurling team between 2011 and 2015 and of the Roscommon county football team between 2018 and 2022. He is the only manager to lead a football team and a hurling team to provincial titles in two different provinces. Born in Peterswell, County Galway, Cunningham was raised in a hurling stronghold in the south of the county. He was a two-time Connacht medallist at colleges level with Our Lady's College while simultaneously joining the St Thomas's senior club team. Cunningham made his debut on the inter-county scene at the age of fifteen when he first linked up with the Galway minor team. Andy Moran
Andy Moran (born 2 November 1983) is an Irish Gaelic football manager and former player for Ballaghaderreen and the Mayo county team. He made his 150th league and championship appearance for Mayo in June 2017, his 13th season. Playing career Although Ballaghaderreen town was transferred from County Mayo to County Roscommon under the Local Government (Ireland) Act 1898, the GAA club competes in Mayo and many of its players declare for that county. Liam Silke (born 22 November 1994) is an Irish Gaelic footballer who plays at senior level for the Galway county team. He is a nephew of All-Ireland SFC winning Galway captain Ray Silke. St Jarlath's Park
St Jarlath's Park (''Páirc Naomh Iarflaith'', commonly known as Tuam Stadium) is a GAA stadium in Tuam, County Galway, Ireland. It is one of the principal stadiums of Galway GAA's football teams. The ground once had a capacity of around 26,000. This has progressively been reduced for safety reasons and has most recently been reduced to 6,700.
