2019 Budapest Assembly Election
The 2019 Budapest Assembly election was held on 13 October 2019, concurring with other local elections in Hungary. Voters elected the Mayor of Budapest, and the mayors of the 23 districts directly, while 9 seats in the assembly were distributed proportionally, taking into account votes cast for losing district mayoral candidates. Mayor Gergely Karácsony was elected mayor with 50.86% of the vote, defeating incumbent István Tarlós who held the office since 2010. The General Assembly of Budapest ( hu, Fővárosi Közgyűlés, lit=Capital City Assembly) is a unicameral body consisting of 33 members, which consist of the 23 mayors of the districts, 9 from the electoral lists of political parties, and the Mayor of Budapest (who is elected directly). ---- Erzsébetváros (german: link=no, Elisabethstadt, both names meaning ''Elizabethtown'') is the 7th district of Budapest, situated on the Pest side of the Danube. The inner half of the district was the historic Jewish quarter of Pest. The Dohány Street Synagogue, the largest functioning synagogue in Europe, is located in this district. Currently it is the most densely populated district of Budapest with 29,681.3 person per km2. In 1910 Erzsébetváros had 152,454 inhabitants. Tamás István Soproni (born 20 February 1986) is a Hungarian linguist, translator and politician, who has been the Mayor of Terézváros (6th district of Budapest) since 2019. He is a member of the Momentum Movement. Life Soproni was born into a lower-middle-class family in Budapest on 20 February 1986. He lives in Terézváros since his childhood. His father was a sexton. He earned a degree of English studies at the School of English and American Studies of the Faculty of Humanities of the Eötvös Loránd University. Terézváros
Terézváros (English: Theresa Town, German: Theresienstadt) is the District VI of Budapest, and was named after Queen Maria Theresa in 1777, who visited the neighbourhood 26 years earlier in 1751. The territory was first inhabited in the early 18th century when the old town of Pest (today: Inner City) was already fully built, so that people had to inhabit lands outside the city. Terézváros was one of the ten districts that were formed when the city of Budapest was created in 1873. Today Terézváros is the second in population density after the neighbouring Erzsébetváros. Belváros-Lipótváros
District V is the heart of Budapest and the political, financial, commercial and touristic center of Hungary. The name of the district is Belváros-Lipótváros (English: Inner City – Leopold Town), which refers to the two historical neighbourhoods that is located in the district; Inner City (Budapest), Belváros ("Inner City") and Lipótváros ("Leopold Town"). Tibor Déri (born 1985) is a Hungarian politician, who has been the Mayor of Újpest (4th district of Budapest) since 2019. Life and career Tibor Déri was born in Eger, Heves County. Zsolt Wintermantel (born 26 February 1972) is a Hungarian politician, who served as Mayor of Újpest (4th district of Budapest) from 2010 to 2019. Besides that he represented Újpest (Budapest Constituency VI) in the National Assembly of Hungary from 2010 to 2014. Újpest
Újpest (; german: Neu-Pest, en, New Pest) is the 4th District in Budapest, Hungary. It is located on the left bank of the Danube River. The name Újpest means "New Pest" because the city was formed on the border of the city of Pest, Hungary in 1838. Újpest was a village for 6 decades until 1907 when it became a town. In 1950, the town was unified with Budapest to form Greater Budapest. Since 1950, Újpest is the 4th District of Budapest. László Kiss (born 2 July 1979) is a Hungarian teacher and politician, who has been the mayor of Óbuda-Békásmegyer (3rd district of Budapest) since 2019. He was also a member of the National Assembly (MP) for the district (Budapest Constituency X) from 2014 to 2018.
