Péter Niedermüller
Péter Niedermüller (born 3 September 1952) is a Hungarian politician. From July 2014 to July 2019, he served as a Member of the European Parliament, representing Hungary (European Parliament constituency), Hungary for the Democratic Coalition (Hungary), Democratic Coalition. In the 2019 Hungarian local elections, he was elected as the Erzsébetváros, Mayor of Erzsébetváros as the joint candidate of the opposition (Hungarian Socialist Party, MSZP-Dialogue for Hungary, P-Democratic Coalition (Hungary), DK-Politics Can Be Different, LMP-Momentum Movement, Momentum)(with external support of Jobbik) Niedermüller also served as the Treasurer of the Group of the Progressive Alliance of Socialists and Democrats in the European Parliament. A Member of the European Parliament (MEP) is a person who has been elected to serve as a popular representative in the European Parliament. The Progressive Alliance of Socialists and Democrats (S&D) is the political group in the European Parliament of the Party of European Socialists (PES). The Progressive Alliance of Socialists and Democrats was officially founded as a Socialist Group on 29 June 1953 which makes it the second oldest political group in the European Parliament after Renew Europe (Renew). It adopted its present-day name on 23 June 2009. Centre-left in orientation, the group mostly comprises social-democratic parties and is affiliated with the Progressive Alliance and Socialist International. The Hungarian Socialist Party ( hu, Magyar Szocialista Párt), commonly known by its acronym MSZP, is a centre-left social-democratic and pro-European political party in Hungary.
