Kei Nishikori defeated Daniil Medvedev in the final, 6–4, 3–6, 6–2 to win the men's singles tennis title at the 2019 Brisbane International. The win ended Nishikori's streak of nine consecutive finals lost on the ATP Tour. Nick Kyrgios was the defending champion, but lost in the second round to Jérémy Chardy. Kei Nishikori
is an inactive Japanese professional tennis player. He is the second male Japanese player to have been ranked in the top 5 in singles (after Jiro Sato), and the only one to do so in the Open Era. Nishikori first reached his career-high singles ranking of world No. 4 in March 2015. Nishikori has won 12 singles titles and was runner-up at the 2014 US Open, making him the first male player representing an Asian country to reach a Grand Slam singles final. He also became the first man from Asia to qualify for the ATP Finals and reached the semifinals in 2014 and 2016. James Duckworth (born 21 January 1992) is an Australian professional tennis player. He has a career-high Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP) singles ranking of World No. 47 achieved on 8 November 2021 and No. 185 in doubles achieved on 10 February 2020.
