The 2019 Ashfield District Council election took place on 2 May 2019, to elect all members of Ashfield District Council in England. The election resulted in the Ashfield Independents gaining control of the council with a large majority, winning 30 of the 35 seats up for election. The Labour Party suffered heavy losses, winning just 2 seats, a decrease of 20 compared with the last election in 2015. Jason Zadrozny
Jason Bernard Zadrozny (born 20 July 1980) is a British politician from the Ashfield Independents and Leader of Ashfield District Council. In 2007, he first became Leader of the Council as a Liberal Democrat, becoming the youngest council leader in the United Kingdom at that time, aged 26. Labour took back control at elections in 2009, but in 2018 Zadrozny regained the position as an Ashfield Independent. He is also a member of Nottinghamshire County Council. Early life Zadrozny was born in Sutton-in-Ashfield, Nottinghamshire and is of Polish descent. He grew up in Kirkby-in-Ashfield attending Greenwood Primary School, Ashfield Comprehensive School, and West Nottinghamshire College, where he completed a BTeC National Diploma in Performance Art. He then obtained a Higher National Diploma in Theatre Studies from the college in 2002. The Ashfield Independents are a political party in the Ashfield District in Nottinghamshire, England. Electoral history In 2017, the Ashfield Independents stood candidates in the Nottinghamshire County Council elections. They won five seats. A month later, Gail Turner ran for the party in the 2017 general election and gained 9.2% of the vote with 4,612 votes, receiving the second-highest vote share of an independent candidate in England; however, Labour retained the seat. The party won two by-elections to Ashfield District Council in 2017 and 2018 in the Hucknall North and Sutton Junction & Harlow Wood wards. In 2019 the party stood candidates across Ashfield District Council and won 30 of the 35 seats, taking overall control of the authority.
