2019 Air Force Falcons Football Team
The 2019 Air Force Falcons football team represented the United States Air Force Academy in the 2019 NCAA Division I FBS football season. The Falcons were led by thirteenth-year head coach Troy Calhoun and played their home games at Falcon Stadium in Colorado Springs, Colorado. They competed as members of the Mountain West Conference in the Mountain Division. They finished the season 11–2, 7–1 in Mountain West play to finish in second place in the Mountain Division. Following the season they were invited to the Cheez-It Bowl where they defeated Washington State by a score of 31–21. Troy Calhoun
Nathan Troy Calhoun (born September 26, 1966) is an American football coach and former player. He is the head football coach at the United States Air Force Academy, a position he has held since the 2007 season. Early life and playing career Calhoun was born in McMinnville, Oregon in 1966, although his family moved to Roseburg, Oregon when Calhoun was just three years old. Calhoun attended Roseburg High School, where he played football under longtime Roseburg coach Thurman Bell. Along with Bell, Calhoun also counts Dayton High School (Oregon), Dayton High coach Dewey Sullivan—a Calhoun family friend—as an early influence. Calhoun joined the Air Force Academy in 1985, becoming one of just two freshmen to letter on the 1985 Air Force Falcons football team, 1985 Falcons team that finished 12–1. Two human polls and a committee's selections comprise the 2019 National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division I Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS) football rankings, in addition to various publications' preseason polls. Unlike most sports, college football's governing body, the NCAA, does not bestow a national championship, instead that title is bestowed by one or more different polling agencies. There are two main weekly polls that begin in the preseason—the AP Poll and the Coaches Poll. One additional poll, the College Football Playoff (CFP) ranking, is released midway through the season after the ninth week. The CFP rankings determine who makes the four-team playoff which determines the College Football Playoff National Champion. The Midshipmen were led by 12th-year head coach Ken Niumatalolo and played their home games at Navy–Marine Corps Memorial Stadium. The 2019 San Jose State Spartans football team represented San Jose State University in the 2019 NCAA Division I FBS football season. The Spartans were led by third year coach Brent Brennan and played their home games at CEFCU Stadium. San Jose State was a member of the Mountain West Conference in the West Division.
