2019 Africa Women's Sevens
The 2019 Africa Women's Sevens was a women's rugby sevens tournament held in Monastir, Tunisia on 12–13 October 2019. The tournament acted as qualification for the 2020 Hong Kong Women's Sevens, which in turns serves as a qualification tournament for the World Rugby Women's Sevens Series. The tournament also acted as qualification for the 2020 Summer Olympics. South Africa won the tournament and qualified for the Hong Kong Sevens along with Kenya. South Africa declined Olympics qualification so Kenya earned the automatic qualifying spot. The 2018 Africa Women's Sevens was a women's rugby sevens tournament held in Gaborone, Botswana on 26–27 May 2018. Kenya as the highest ranked team qualified for the 2018 Dubai Women's Sevens and 2019 Hong Kong Women's Sevens. Uganda also qualified for 2019 Hong Kong Women's Sevens. The World Rugby Women's Sevens Series, is a series of international rugby sevens tournaments for women's national teams run by World Rugby. The inaugural series was held in 2012–13 as the successor to the IRB Women's Sevens Challenge Cup held the previous season. The competition has been sponsored by banking group HSBC since 2015. The series, the women's counterpart to the World Rugby Sevens Series, provides elite-level women's competition between rugby nations. Rugby sevens at the 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo took place from 26 July to 31 July 2021 at the Tokyo Stadium. 24 teams (12 each for men and women) competed in the tournament. The dates were modified due to the postponement of the Tokyo 2020 games as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic. Competition The men's and women's rugby sevens competitions took place at Tokyo Stadium, a 2019 Rugby World Cup host venue. The men's sessions took place July 26–28 with the women's sessions happening July 29–31, 2021. Changes In a reverse to the 2016 schedule, the men's competition was played first over three days from July 27–29 with the women's competition taking place from July 30 through August 1 and culminating with the gold medal session. Jemmal ( ar, جمال) is a city in the Monastir Governorate of Tunisia, located about south of Monastir. As of 2014 it had a population of 50,275. 2020 Women's Rugby Sevens Final Olympic Qualification Tournament
The final qualification repechage tournament for women's rugby sevens at the 2020 Summer Olympics was held on 19–20 June 2021 at Stade Louis II in Monaco. The tournament was originally scheduled for a year earlier, but was postponed until 2021 due to the global COVID-19 pandemic. Twelve women's teams were eligible to compete in the repechage tournament, as high placing teams from the six continental Olympic qualification events.
