2018–19 BCHL Season
The 2018–19 BCHL season is the 57th season of the British Columbia Hockey League (BCHL). The seventeen teams from the Interior, Island and Mainland divisions played 58-game schedules. The 2018 BCHL Showcase, hosted annually in Chilliwack, occurred shortly after the start of the season from September 20 to 22, 2018. In March, the top teams from each division played for the Fred Page Cup, the BCHL Championship, won by the Prince George Spruce Kings. From there, they represented the league in the Doyle Cup, a best-of-seven series against the Alberta Junior Hockey League champion Brooks Bandits, normally to determine who represents the Pacific region in the National Junior A Championship. However, as the National Junior A Championship was being hosted in Brooks, Alberta, by the Brooks Bandits with the automatic hosts berth, the Spruce Kings were already guaranteed a spot in the tournament no matter the outcome. British Columbia Hockey League
The British Columbia Hockey League (BCHL) is a Junior A ice hockey league from British Columbia under Hockey Canada and BC Hockey. Founded in Vernon in 1961, the BCHL now includes 18 teams. From 1993 to 2021, the league was a member of the Canadian Junior Hockey League (CJHL), an association of Junior A leagues across Canada that would play for the National Junior A Championship. The winner of the BCHL playoffs (Fred Page Cup) would continue on to play the Alberta Junior Hockey League champion in the Doyle Cup for the right to then compete in the National Junior A Championship. In 2021, the BCHL left the CJHL. Alberni Valley Bulldogs
The Alberni Valley Bulldogs are a Junior "A" ice hockey team based in Port Alberni, British Columbia, Canada. They are members of the Island Division of the British Columbia Hockey League (BCHL). They play their home games at Weyerhaeuser Arena. History The Bulldogs were founded as an expansion team in the British Columbia Hockey League (BCHL) in Burnaby, British Columbia, in 1998. They were moved to Port Alberni in 2002. After being run as a community owned franchise for many years, the club was sold on July 18th, 2019. The BCHL board of governors granted unanimous approval for Keycorp Sports & Entertainment Ltd to acquire a majority share in the Alberni Valley Bulldogs. Joining Keycorp Sports and Entertainment are Ron Coutre of Victoria, Luke Betts of Coquitlam, Dennis See, Stefanie Weber and Tim Maclean all of Port Alberni. Penticton Vees
The Penticton Vees are a junior "A" ice hockey team from Penticton, British Columbia, Canada. They are a part of the British Columbia Hockey League. The junior Vees were founded in 1961, sharing the name of the senior hockey team, the Penticton Vees. History The Junior Vees were one of the inaugural teams in the Okanagan-Mainline Junior A Hockey League (OMJHL), launched in 1961. The league became the British Columbia Junior Hockey League (BCJHL) in 1967. Although it is commonly thought by many that the name "Vees" refers to "victory", the name actually represents the three types of local peaches (Vedette, Valiant and Victory). White Rock, British Columbia
White Rock is a city in British Columbia, Canada, and a member municipality of the Metro Vancouver Regional District. It borders Semiahmoo Bay to the south and is surrounded on three sides by Surrey. The Township of Langley is a district municipality immediately east of the City of Surrey in southwestern British Columbia, Canada. Langley Rivermen
The Langley Rivermen are a junior "A" ice hockey team based in Langley, British Columbia, Canada. They are members of the Mainland Division of the British Columbia Hockey League (BCHL). History The BCHL franchise was founded as the Richmond Sockeyes in 1972 in the Pacific Junior A Hockey League. In 1990, Sockeyes dropped to the junior B level and sold the junior A franchise to become the Chilliwack Chiefs. In 2006, the Chilliwack Bruins of the Western Hockey League were founded and the Chiefs moved to become the Langley Chiefs. Coquitlam ( ) is a city in the Lower Mainland of British Columbia, Canada. Coquitlam Express
The Coquitlam Express are a Junior "A" ice hockey team based in Coquitlam, British Columbia, Canada. They are members of the Coastal Conference of the British Columbia Hockey League (BCHL). They play their home games at the Poirier Sport & Leisure Complex. Although the team had played in the neighbouring city of Burnaby for the previous five years, on 14 January 2010 it was announced that the BCHL Board of Governors unanimously approved the relocation of the franchise back to Coquitlam for the 2010–11 season. The Chilliwack Chiefs are a junior "A" ice hockey team based in Chilliwack, British Columbia, Canada. They are members of the Mainland Division of the British Columbia Hockey League (BCHL). They play their home games at Chilliwack Coliseum which was vacated after the Chilliwack Bruins of the Western Hockey League (WHL) were sold and moved to Victoria, where they became known as the Victoria Royals.
