2018 World Weightlifting Championships
The 2018 World Weightlifting Championships were held in Ashgabat, Turkmenistan from 1 to 10 November 2018. The logo of IWF World Championships 2018 has consisted of abstract illustration of weightlifting athlete designed by Ashgabat based design firm, Belli Creative Studio This was the first World Championship, after the IWF changed their weight classes and nullified all world records. As a result this World Championship saw a total of 31 senior men's world records set, and 41 senior women's world records set. Ashgabat
Ashgabat or Asgabat ( tk, Aşgabat, ; fa, عشق‌آباد, translit='Ešqābād, formerly named Poltoratsk ( rus, Полтора́цк, p=pəltɐˈratsk) between 1919 and 1927), is the capital and the largest city of Turkmenistan. It lies between the Karakum Desert and the Kopetdag mountain range in Central Asia, near the Iran-Turkmenistan border. The city was founded in 1881 on the basis of an Ahal Teke tribal village, and made the capital of the Turkmen Soviet Socialist Republic in 1924. Much of the city was destroyed by the 1948 Ashgabat earthquake, but has since been extensively rebuilt under the rule of Saparmurat Niyazov's "White City" urban renewal project, resulting in monumental projects sheathed in costly white marble. The Soviet-era Karakum Canal runs through the city, carrying waters from the Amu Darya from east to west. Francisco Antonio Mosquera Valencia (born 1 April 1992) is a Colombian weightlifter, World Champion, three-time Pan American Champion and Pan American Games Champion competing in the 62 kg category until 2018 and 61 kg starting in 2018 after the International Weightlifting Federation reorganized the categories. Career Injury before Olympics In 2016 he tore his Patellar tendon in his left knee 10 days before the beginning of the 2016 Summer Olympics and was unable to compete. Li Dayin (; born 12 February 1998) is a Chinese weightlifter and Asian Champion competing in the 81 kg division. He has set three world records and holds all three junior world records in the 81 kg division. He won the gold medal in the men's 81kg event at the 2022 World Weightlifting Championships held in Bogotá, Colombia. Lü Xiaojun (; born 27 July 1984) is a Chinese Olympic weightlifting, weightlifter. Mohamed Ehab Youssef Ahmed Mahmoud (born 21 November 1989), known as Mohamed Mahmoud or Mohamed Ehab, is an Egyptian weightlifter, and World Champion competing in the 77 kg category until 2018 and 81 kg starting in 2018 after the International Weightlifting Federation reorganized the categories. Early life Ehab was born in Faiyum, Egypt a city located 100 kilometers southwest from Cairo. He was introduced to weightlifting by his father. Shi Zhiyong (; born 10 October 1993) is a Chinese weightlifter, two time Olympic Champion, three time World Champion and four time Asian Champion competing in the 69 kg category until 2018 and 73 kg starting in 2018 after the International Weightlifting Federation reorganized the categories. Oscar Albeiro Figueroa Mosquera (born 27 April 1983) is a Colombian weightlifter, and Olympic Champion (gold-medalist) competing in the 62 kg category until 2018 and 67 kg starting in 2018 after the International Weightlifting Federation reorganized the categories.
