2018 Woking Borough Council Election
The 2018 Woking Borough Council election took place on 3 May 2018 to elect one third of members to Woking Borough Council in England coinciding with other local elections held across much of England. Elections in each ward are held in three years out of four. Woking was one of the boroughs subject to a trial of voter ID requiring the production of photographic ID or 2 other forms of ID at the polling station. Results The Conservatives lost one seat to the Liberal Democrats, with Mount Hermon councillor Mark Pengelly losing by a margin of just 17 votes to Liam Lyons, who had been defeated by Pengelly two years earlier. The Conservatives also failed to win their target seats of Byfleet and St John's by narrow margins, and came within 10 votes of losing in Goldsworth Park, although they held their seats in Horsell, Knaphill, Heathlands and Pyrford with very large majorities. 2016 Woking Borough Council Election
The 2016 Woking Borough Council election took place on 5 May 2016 to elect members of Woking Borough Council in England. This was on the same day as other elections across the UK and the Police and Crime Commissioner election for Surrey Police. Boundary changes had included a shrinking of the council from 36 councillors to 30 councillors, and all 30 council seats in the 10 new wards were up for election. In each ward, 3 candidates were elected, with the leading candidate in each ward being elected for 4 years, the second-placed candidate being elected for 3 years and the third-placed candidate being elected for 2 years. As a result, there will be no borough elections in 2017, but a third of the council will be due for re-election in each of 2018, 2019 and 2020. 2019 Woking Borough Council Election
The 2019 Woking Borough Council election took place on 2 May 2019 to elect one third of members to Woking Borough Council in England coinciding with other local elections held across much of England. The previous election was held in 2018 and the next election was due to be held in 2020 but was instead deferred to 2021 along with all other ‘2020’ local elections due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Results Summary Shortly before these elections, in April 2019, Cllr. Graham Chrystie (a councillor for Pyrford ward) defected from the Conservatives to the Liberal Democrats, leaving the ruling Conservative administration going into these elections with exactly half - 15 out of 30 - of the seats on the council. Woking Borough Council
Woking Borough Council is the local authority for the borough of Woking in the county of Surrey, England. The council consists of 30 councillors, three for each of the 10 wards in the town. It is currently controlled by the Liberal Democrat Party, led by Ann-Marie Barker. The borough council is based at Woking Civic Offices. History Woking Local Board was established in 1893. Such local boards became urban districts in December 1894 under the Local Government Act 1894, and so the local board was replaced by Woking Urban District Council. The urban district was significantly enlarged in 1907 when it absorbed Horsell parish and again in 1933 when it absorbed Byfleet and Pyrford parishes. 2018 United Kingdom Local Elections
Council elections in England were held on Thursday 3 May 2018. Elections were held in all 32 London boroughs, 34 metropolitan boroughs, 67 district and borough councils and 17 unitary authorities. There were also direct elections for the mayoralties of Hackney, Lewisham, Newham, Tower Hamlets and Watford.
