2018 WPA World Nine-ball Championship
The 2018 WPA World Nine-ball Championship was a Nine-ball, 9-Ball pool (billiards), pool world Championships. The event took place between December 10 to 20, 2018 in the Mohammed Bin Hamad AlHitmi Indoor Hall, al-Attiya Sports Arena of the Mohammed Bin Hamad AlHitmi Indoor Hall, Al-Arabi Sports Club in Doha, Qatar. The Qatari capital held the event for the eighth time in a row. The reigning champion was Filipino Carlo Biado, who defeated his compatriot Roland Garcia 13–5 in the 2017 WPA World Nine-ball Championship, 2017 final. Biado would reach the final of the event, defeating Shane Van Boening in the semi-final. Germany's Joshua Filler won the event, defeating Biado in the final 13–10. Mohammed Bin Hamad AlHitmi Indoor Hall
Mohammed Bin Hamad Indoor Hall (Arabic: صالة محمد بن حمد الهتمي), also known as the Al-Arabi Sports Club Hall, is a multi-purpose Hall in Doha, Qatar. It is currently used mostly for volleyball and basketball matches. The volleyball, basketball, futsal, and handball teams of Al-Arabi SC play there. The stadium has a seating capacity of 2,000 people. The hall served as one of the two venues for the 2013–14 Qatari Volleyball League season. 2013 WPA World Nine-ball Championship
The 2013 WPA World Nine-ball Championship was the 22nd event in the annual WPA World Nine-ball Championship. The event took place from September 2 to 13, 2013 in Doha, Qatar. Germany's Thorsten Hohmann became world champion by a 13–6 victory over Philippine Antonio Gabica, in the final. This was Hohmann's second 9-ball World championship, having also won the 2003 WPA World Nine-ball Championship. Hohmann defeated defending champion Darren Appleton in an early stage of the event. Format The 128 participating players were divided into 16 groups, in which they competed in a double elimination tournament against each other. The remaining 64 players in each group qualified for the final round played in the knockout system. Prize money The event's prize money stayed similar to that of the previous years, with winner Thorsten Hohmann winning $36,000. Aloysius Yapp (; zh, s=叶浚惟, p=Yè Jùnwéi; born 2 May 1996) is a Singaporean professional pool player. He was world junior champion in nine-ball in 2014 and runner-up in the 2021 U.S. Open Pool Championship. Career Yapp began playing pool at age eight. An alumnus of Saint Patrick's School, he dropped out of school in 2011 to turn professional, although he eventually completed his GCE Ordinary Level examinations at Coleman College. Reportedly the first professional pool player from Singapore, he won the inaugural Asian Junior Pool Championship in 2014. Later that year, he became the first Singaporean to claim a world title in pool when he won the World Junior Pool Championships (Under-19) in Shanghai, China, beating Hsu Jui-an 11–10. Khaled Mashal ( ar, خالد مشعل, Khālid Mashʿal, Levantine Arabic: , born 28 May 1956) is a former leader of the Palestinian organization Hamas. After the founding of Hamas in 1987, Mashal became the leader of the Kuwaiti branch of the organization. In 1992, he became a founding member of Hamas' politburo and its chairman. Eklent Kaçi (born January 29, 1999), also known as Klenti Kaçi is an Albanian professional pool and amateur snooker player. Kaçi won the WPA World Ten-ball Championship in 2021 and 2023 and reached the semi-finals of the 2017 WPA World Nine-ball Championship. He has been the top-ranked played in the world of 9-ball pool.
