Sir Chris Hoy Velodrome
The Commonwealth Arena and Sir Chris Hoy Velodrome, known for sponsorship reasons as the Emirates Arena, is an indoor arena and velodrome in Dalmarnock, Glasgow, Scotland. Built for the 2014 Commonwealth Games, these venues hosted the badminton and track cycling events. Situated opposite Celtic Park in the East End, Glasgow, East End of Glasgow, the complex is the headquarters of Sportscotland and Scottish Cycling. History It was built on a site at a cost of £113 million. The construction work took place between 2009 and 2012. The venue opened in October 2012. In September 2017, neighbours Celtic F.C. had plans approved for the construction of a hotel complex within their land, situated directly across the road from the arena and velodrome. Lyubov Valeriyivna Basova, née Shulika ( uk, Любов Валеріївна Басова (Шуліка); born 16 July 1988), is a Ukrainian track cyclist. At the 2012 Summer Olympics, she competed in the Women's team sprint for the national team, along with the individual sprint and the keirin. At the 2016 Olympics, she was the only Ukrainian track cyclist, qualifying for the women's keirin. Sandie Clair (born 1 April 1988) is a French professional racing cyclist and bobsledder. She won her first title in 2005 in the national junior sprint championship. It qualified her for the European junior championship in Fiorenzuola, where she won the sprint and rode the keirin and 500m time-trial. A month later she came third in the junior world 500m championship. She won two medals at the world junior championship in 2006, then at Ghent won the world championship 500m and came third in the sprint. Simona Krupeckaitė (born 13 December 1982) is a Lithuanian former professional track cyclist. She is the 2009 500 m Time Trial World Champion and World Record holder at 33.296s, and the 2010 Keirin World Champion. She also won the 2009, 2010 and 2016 Lithuanian Sportsperson of the Year award. In 2010 Krupeckaitė reached one more world record. This time she achieved 10.793 s record at Flying 200 m time trial event. She retired from competition after the conclusion of the 2021 UCI Track Champions League in December of that year. Sophie Capewell
Sophie Capewell (born 4 September 1998) is a British professional racing cyclist. She comes from a cycling family, with her father, the late Nigel Capewell representing Great Britain at the 1996 Atlanta and 2000 Sydney Paralympic Games. She competed in the women's sprint at the 2020 World Championships in Berlin. Capewell then went on to win bronze in the team sprint at the 2021 World Championships in Roubaix, France. Capewell was selected for the England team for the 2022 Commonwealth Games. Despite taking the first race of three, Capewell ultimately lost the bronze medal final of the women's sprint to Emma Finucane of Wales, finishing fourth overall. However, she bounced back to take 500m time trial bronze the following day. She subsequently won a silver medal in the keirin, which she dedicated to her late father Nigel, who died in October 2021.
