2018 Rugby World Cup Sevens Qualifying – Women
This is the qualifications of the 2018 Rugby World Cup Sevens – Women's tournament aimed at selecting women's Rugby sevens national teams that appeared in the finals in San Francisco. A total of 52 nations took part in the qualifying process. General The tournament is organized by World Rugby to be held on 20–22 July 2018, with sixteen teams in attendance. Automatic qualification is extended the semi-finalists of the previous World Cup (of which host United States is one). Four other bids were determined by placement in the 2016-17 World Rugby Women's Sevens Series, with the remainder decided in each of the six regions' respective tournaments. Qualified teams Qualifying Africa The tournament was held 16–17 September 2017 in Monastir, Tunisia, with South Africa beating Kenya 17–12 to obtain the one allotted Africa slot for the World Cup. 2018 Rugby World Cup Sevens – Women's Tournament
The women's tournament in the 2018 Rugby World Cup Sevens was held at AT&T Park in San Francisco alongside the men's tournament in which the teams competed for the Women's Rugby Sevens World Cup. Format Unlike previous editions, the tournament was played for the first time in a knock-out only format. * Teams in the Championship Cup competed for the Women's Rugby Sevens World Cup trophy and bronze medals. * Losing teams in the Championship Cup Quarter-finals competed for 5th Place. * Losing teams in the Championship Cup Round of 16 (first round) competed for the Challenge Trophy and 13th Place. * All teams played four matches. The Rugby Americas North Women's Sevens, or RAN Women's Sevens, is the regional championship for women's international rugby sevens in North America and the Caribbean. The tournament is held over two days, typically on a weekend in November. It is sanctioned and sponsored by Rugby Americas North, which is the rugby union governing body for the region. Prior to 2016, it was referred to as the North America and Caribbean Women's Sevens. Rugby sevens — also known as 7-a-side, or 7s — is a short form of the sport of rugby union that was first played in 1883. The first (men's) internationals took place in 1973. Carrasco Polo Club is a Uruguayan sports club from the Carrasco, Montevideo, Carrasco neighbourhood of Montevideo. The 2018 Sudamérica Rugby Women's Sevens was the tournaments 15th edition and was hosted by Uruguay in Montevideo from 9–10 November.
