2018 PDC World Cup Of Darts
The 2018 Betway World Cup of Darts was the eighth edition of the PDC World Cup of Darts. It took place between 31 May–3 June 2018 in at the Eissporthalle in Frankfurt, Germany. The Netherlands pairing of Michael van Gerwen and Raymond van Barneveld were the reigning champions and they retained the title by defeating Scotland's Peter Wright and Gary Anderson 3–1 in the final. Format The tournament will remain at 32 teams this year, with the top 8 teams being seeded and the remaining 24 teams being unseeded in the first round. Like last year, there are no groups in 2018 with the tournament being a straight knockout. First round: Best of nine legs doubles. Second round, quarter and semi-finals: Two best of seven legs singles matches. If the scores are tied a best of seven legs doubles match will settle the match. Eissporthalle Frankfurt
Eissporthalle Frankfurt or Eissporthalle am Ratsweg is an arena in the Bornheim district of Frankfurt, Germany. It is used for ice hockey and is the home arena of Löwen Frankfurt. It is also used as an ice skating rink. It has opened on 19 December 1981 and holds 6,946 people. History The first skating rink in Frankfurt opened during a patent exhibition in 1882 in the Palmengarten. It covered 520m² and operated for two months; the refrigeration system was designed by Linde,Linde AG: "75 Jahre Linde", 1954, S. 52 and it was probably the first skating rink where Ammonia was used as a refrigerant. Ten years later, a larger rink was permanently installed on the same site. The Eissporthalle was designed by Richard Heil and Werner Deyle, when it opened it was one of two buildings with ice skating rinks, the other was next to the Waldstadion which closed in the 1990s. Simon Whitlock
Simon Whitlock (born 3 March 1969) is an Australian professional darts player who plays in Professional Darts Corporation (PDC) tournaments, having also played in the British Darts Organisation (BDO) between 2004 and 2009. He uses the nickname The Wizard for his matches. His walk-on music is "Down Under" by Men at Work. His greatest achievements to date are winning the 2012 European Championship and 2022 World Cup of Darts for Australia with Damon Heta. Whitlock has also finished runner-up at the 2008 BDO World Darts Championship and the 2010 PDC World Darts Championship. He claimed that the prize money gained from the latter tournament which included money for the highest checkout (joint with Phil Taylor) would allow him to move over to the UK from Australia and compete on the PDC Pro Tour. Zong Xiao Chen
Zong Xiao Chen (; born 8 March 1998) is a Chinese professional darts player from Dandong who currently plays in Professional Darts Corporation (PDC) events. He is a first winner of the China Premier League. He represented China for two time at the PDC World Darts Championship. Career Zong played in the 2017 Shanghai Darts Masters, where he lost 0–6 to James Wade, and later in the year, he won the Chinese Qualifier competition to qualify for the 2018 PDC World Darts Championship. Dawson Murschell
Dawson Murschell (born 23 November 1995) is a Canadian former professional darts player who played in the Professional Darts Corporation (PDC) events from 2017 to 2019. Career Murschell first appeared in a televised darts tournament in 2017, when he took part in the North American Championship, defeating David Cameron, before losing to eventual winner, Willard Bruguier. By qualifying for that tournament, he also qualified for the 2017 US Darts Masters in Las Vegas, where he was drawn against James Wade in the first round. After surviving six match darts from "The Machine", Murschell hit double top to win and set up a quarter-final with Gerwyn Price, which he would go on to lose 8–4. John Part
John Part (born June 29, 1966) is a Canadian former professional darts player and current commentator. Nicknamed Darth Maple, he is a three-times World Champion, having won the 1994 BDO World Darts Championship on his world championship debut, and the PDC World Championship in 2003 and 2008. Part is statistically North America's greatest darts player to date. He has the distinction of being the first non-UK player to win the World Championship, and the only non-European to date to win the PDC World Darts Championship. Diogo Portela
Diogo Portela (born 12 June 1988) is a Brazilian professional darts player who plays in Professional Darts Corporation (PDC) and World Darts Federation (WDF) events. Career Originally from Rio de Janeiro, Portela first came into prominence in 2015 when he appeared on the Sky1 darts show '' One Hundred and Eighty'', where with the help of James Wade, he won £16,000. Zoran Lerchbacher
Zoran Lerchbacher (born 30 May 1972) is an Austrian professional darts player from Graz, Austria currently playing in the Professional Darts Corporation. Career Lerchbacher qualified for the 2014 PDC World Darts Championship and won 4–1 in the preliminary round against Ben Ward. He then went out in a 3–0 loss to Michael van Gerwen. Lerchbacher was able to score a slightly higher average than Van Gerwen, but was only able to win one leg in the match. He entered Q School to try and win a tour card to compete on the PDC tour and lost in the final round of the fourth day 5–1 to Joe Murnan. Nevertheless, Lerchbacher had done enough to finish tied second on the Q School Order of Merit to seal his place on the PDC for 2014 and 2015. Mensur Suljović (Serbian Cyrillic: Менсур Суљовић; born 5 March 1972) is an Austrian professional darts player. He plays in Professional Darts Corporation (PDC) events, having previously played in the British Darts Organisation (BDO). Nicknamed The Gentle, Suljović is noted for his unorthodox throwing action and favouring double 14 as his finishing double where possible. Dimitri Van den Bergh (born 8 July 1994) is a Belgian professional darts player who currently competes in Professional Darts Corporation (PDC) events. He is a two-time World Youth Champion and the 2020 World Matchplay champion, after beating Gary Anderson 18–10 in the final, in his first time competing in the Matchplay. Kim Huybrechts
Kim Huybrechts (born 16 November 1985) is a Belgian professional darts player currently playing in Professional Darts Corporation (PDC) events. He made the final of a major TV event, the 2012 Players Championship Finals, losing to Phil Taylor 13-6, as well as making the final of the 2013 PDC World Cup of Darts with his brother Ronny. Brendan Gabriel Dolan (born 2 August 1973) is a Northern Irish professional darts player from County Fermanagh, Northern Ireland, who plays in Professional Darts Corporation (PDC) events.
