2018 Major League Rugby Season
The 2018 Major League Rugby season was the inaugural season of Major League Rugby, an annual rugby union competition sanctioned by USA Rugby. The seven inaugural teams were based in the United States. The competition began the weekend of April 21–22 with three matches, with New Orleans defeating Houston 35–26 to open the season. Glendale and Seattle were the best two teams at the end of the regular season and won their respective semi-final matches to advance to the championship game at Torero Stadium in San Diego. Seattle became Major League Rugby's first champion team with a surprise come-from-behind 23–19 win in the final over Glendale, who had only lost once previously during the season. Infinity Park
Infinity Park is a stadium in the Denver enclave of Glendale, Colorado, and was formerly the unofficial home venue of the United States national rugby union team. The stadium has a seating capacity of 5,000 people. It opened in 2007, at a cost of $22.5 million. It is the first rugby-specific, municipally-owned stadium in the United States. Infinity Park is the venue for several domestic rugby union teams. The field is home to the Glendale Merlins, a Division I men's rugby team that have won the national championship, and of the Denver Barbarians. The stadium also hosts the Women's Premier League's Glendale Lady Merlins. Starfire Stadium
Starfire Sports is a multi-purpose stadium and sporting facility in Tukwila, Washington, United States. It is located on the banks of the Green River (Duwamish River), Green River, just south of Seattle. The stadium is operated by the nonprofit corporation Starfire Sports and is home to several soccer and rugby teams. Shalom Suniula
Shalom Suniula (born June 5, 1988) is a former rugby league and rugby union player, who played for the Seattle Seawolves in Major League Rugby (MLR), and for the United States national rugby sevens team. He played rugby union for the United States national rugby union team, United States Eagles XV's, United States national rugby sevens team, USA Sevens, and at club level for Belmont Shore RFC, as a Rugby union positions#Scrum-half, scrum-half or Rugby union positions#Fly-half, fly-half. His brothers Andrew Suniula, Andrew and Roland Suniula also played rugby for the U.S. Suniula previously played representative level rugby league for the New Zealand Junior Kiwis national rugby league team, and at club level for Souths Logan Magpies. Phil Mack
Phil Mack (born 18 September 1985 in Victoria, British Columbia) is a rugby union scrum-half who played for the Seattle Seawolves in Major League Rugby (MLR). He was the Seawolves head coach, winning an MLR Championship Shield in 2018. He also plays for the Canada national rugby union team. He is currently an assistant coach for the Pacific Pride rugby team. He played for Oak bay Scondary school, a historic rugby program in his home town. Phil also played for the BC Bears in Canada. Nate Augspurger
Nate Augspurger (born January 31, 1990) is an American rugby union player from Minneapolis, Minnesota who plays scrum-half for the San Diego Legion in Major League Rugby (MLR). Professional rugby career Augspurger has been a member of the United States national rugby sevens team since the 2012–13 Sevens World Series. He debuted on the World Series Circuit in Dubai and Port Elizabeth, 2012. Augspurger battled injury through his first year as a full time USA sevens resident, which led to missing out on the 7's RWC in Russia, 2013. Shortly after that first full year, he was cut by new Head Coach, Matt Hawkins, before the new year in 2014. Rob Hoadley
Rob Hoadley (born 28 March 1980) is an English rugby union former player and current coach. He is the former head coach of the San Diego Legion of Major League Rugby (MLR). Professional career Hoadley was born in Hammersmith, London, England. He joined London Irish in 1999, spending five seasons with the club and winning the Powergen Cup in 2002. In 2004, Hoadley moved away from London Irish to join rivals London Wasps. During his time at London Wasps the club won the 2004-05 English Premiership (he scored a try in the final as a replacement fullback), 2005–06 Anglo-Welsh Cup, 2006-07 Heineken Cup (he did not play in the final), and 2007–08 English Premiership (he did not play in the final). The San Diego Legion is an American professional rugby union team based in San Diego, California. The team was founded in 2017 and competes in Major League Rugby. Home field The team plays at Snapdragon Stadium, which is located on the campus of the San Diego State University in Mission Valley and has a seating capacity of 35,000. Delmar Stadium is a 12,000-seat stadium located at 1900 Mangum Road in Houston, Texas, United States. It is primarily used for American football games of Houston Independent School District schools.
