2018 Lithuanian Football Cup
The 2018 Lithuanian Football Cup, also known as LFF Cup, was the seventy-third season of the Lithuanian annual football knock-out tournament. Forty-eight teams entered the competitions, which started on 27 April and ended on 30 September. The winners qualify for the 2019–20 UEFA Europa League. Stumbras were the defending champions. Participants Participation in the competition is mandatory for all clubs of the first three tiers (A Lyga, LFF I Lyga and II Lyga). Despite that NFA aren't competing for the second year in a row. Teams of lower divisions are eligible to join if they met additional criterios. Rules prevented all reserve teams from entering the cup. Football Club Jonava, previously (1996–2016) known as Football Club Lietava, is a Lithuanian professional association football, football club based in Jonava. The club gained promotion to the A lyga as champions of the I Lyga in 2015 LFF I lyga, 2015, but were relegated from A Lyga in 2018. History The club was founded in 1991 as Azotas (after the name of the local Azotas fertilizer factory), the name Lietava was adopted in 1996. For a number of years the club played in the second tier of the Lithuanian football championship. Football club Kupiškis, commonly known as Kupiškis was a Lithuanian association football, football team from Kupiškis. History The club was formed in 2018, and made headlines when it was granted exception to participate straight away in the 2nd tier league even after failing the licensing process. The club was struggling, but it made headlines again by trashing FK Koralas Klaipėda 12:0. The game was dubbed a circus, and flagged for match fixing. While investigation was taking place, another game was flagged, against FK Panevėžys. As a result of the investigation, five players were suspended. The team finished the season in 13th position, only above dissolved club FK Koralas Klaipėda. The team was promoted to the Lithuanian A Lyga after the 2018 season, when became winners of 1 Lyga. History The city of Panevėžys has a long history of football in Lithuania. Futbolo klubas Koralas, commonly known as Koralas was a Lithuanian football team from the port city of Klaipėda. History Club was established in 2015. In this season they was in LFF III lyga (4th tier), was leaders for a long time, but finished in third position. Next year, in 2016, they was in LFF II lyga (3rd tier). Was runners-up and got promotion to Pirma lyga (2nd tier). In 2017 team was in Pirma lyga. First half of the season was problematical, but in summer transfer time they get new forces and finished in 6th place. 2018 was problematical. After losing 0–12 to FC Kupiškis they was retired until second half of the season. Football Club Džiugas Telšiai, commonly known as Džiugas Telšiai, or simply as Džiugas, is a Lithuanian association football club based in Telšiai, that competes in the A Lyga, top tier of Lithuanian football. FK Banga Gargždai is a Lithuanian football club from the city of Gargždai. History FK Banga was founded in 1966. During the period from 1966 to 1990, the club was in the Soviet Lithuanian football championship. From 1990, they played in the Lithuanian championship. From 1994 to 2001, they were in the top tier.
