2018 European Golf Team Championships – Mixed Team
The 2018 European Golf Team Championships mixed team event was an event forming part of the 2018 European Golf Team Championships tournament being played in August 2018 at Gleneagles, Scotland. Eleven four-player teams took part in the competition. The event was part of the 2018 European Championships, the inaugural edition of the European Championships, a multi-sport event which is to take place in Berlin, Germany, and Glasgow, Scotland from 2 to 12 August 2018. In a surprise victory, ''Iceland'' took the title by one stroke from the ''Great Britain 3'' team. The ''Sweden 2'' team won bronze in the first hole of a playoff with Spain. Gleneagles Hotel
Gleneagles Hotel is a hotel near Auchterarder, Scotland. It was commissioned by the Caledonian Railway and opened in 1924. The bandleader, Henry Hall (bandleader), Henry Hall, performed at the hotel before the World War II, Second World War during which it served as a military hospital. There are three tournament-standard golf courses in the grounds and the hotel was redeveloped for the 40th Ryder Cup in 2014 Ryder Cup, 2014. Significant conferences at the hotel have included the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting 1977 and the 31st G8 summit in July 2005. It is a Category B listed building. Ladies European Tour
The Ladies European Tour is a professional golf tour for women which was founded in 1978. It is based at Buckinghamshire Golf Club near London in England. Like many UK-based sports organisations it is a company limited by guarantee, a legal structure which enables it to focus on maximising returns to its members through prize money, rather than on making profits for investors. The tour is run by a Board of Directors and a Players' Council. Most of the players on the tour are European, with members from more than 40 countries internationally. Liam Johnston (golfer)
Liam Johnston (born 26 January 1993) is a Scottish professional golfer. He won the Kazakhstan Open and Match Play 9 on the Challenge Tour in 2018. Amateur career Johnston had a successful junior career and finished second on the Scottish Boys Order of Merit in 2010 and 2011. He was runner-up at the 2011 Scottish Boys Match Play and the 2011 Scottish Boys Stroke Play. He attended the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga between 2011 and 2015 and graduated with a degree in psychology. He was All-Southern Conference performer with the Chattanooga Mocs men's golf team in 2014 and 2015. The Women's World Golf Rankings, also known for sponsorship reasons as the Rolex Rankings, were introduced in February 2006. Official World Golf Ranking
The Official World Golf Ranking is a system for rating the performance level of professional golfers. It was started in 1986. The rankings are based on a player's position in individual tournaments (i.e. not pairs or team events) over a "rolling" two-year period. New rankings are calculated each week. During 2018, nearly 400 tournaments on 20 tours were covered by the ranking system. All players competing in these tournaments are included in the rankings. In 2022, 23 tours factored into the world rankings. As well as being of general interest, the rankings have an additional importance, in that they are used as one of the qualifying criteria for entry into a number of leading tournaments. The European Championships is a multi-sport tournament which brings together the existing European Championships of some of the continent's leading sports every four years. 2018 European Championships
The 2018 European Championships were the first edition of the European Championships. It was a multi-sport event which took place in Berlin, Germany, and Glasgow, Scotland, United Kingdom (with Edinburgh hosting the diving events and Gleneagles the golf) from 2 to 12 August 2018. Around 1,500 athletes competed at the European Athletics Championships in Berlin, whilst at the same time more than 3,000 took part in the other championships in Glasgow. Gleneagles, Scotland
Glen Eagles (Scottish Gaelic: Gleann na h-Eaglais/Gleann Eagas) is a glen which connects with Glen Devon to form a pass through the Ochil Hills of Perth and Kinross in Scotland. (The spelling as two words, 'Glen Eagles', is as shown on UK Ordnance Survey maps.) The name's origin has nothing to do with eagles, and is a corruption of ''eaglais'' or '' ecclesia'', meaning church, and refers to the chapel and well of Saint Mungo, which was restored as a memorial to the Haldane family which owns the Gleneagles estate.
