2018 European Athletics Championships
The 2018 European Athletics Championships were held in Berlin, Germany, from 6 to 12 August 2018. The championships were part of the first European Championships with other events happening in the United Kingdom. For the second Championships in a row the Russian team did not participate; this was due to the suspension of the All-Russia Athletic Federation by the International Association of Athletics Federations. However, several athletes were cleared by the IAAF to compete as Authorised Neutral Athletes under the flag of the European Athletic Association. Mariya Lasitskene became the first such athlete to win a gold medal, in the women's high jump. Diana Gansky
Diana Gansky ( Sachse; born 14 December 1963 in Bergen auf Rügen, Bezirk Rostock) is a German track and field athlete. She won an Olympic medal and was one of the world's best discus throwers. She represented East Germany and was the 1986 European champion (with her birth name Sachse). In 1987 and 1988 she was second in both the world championship and the Olympic games. Gansky won the European Junior Championship as a 17-year-old in 1981, but she needed a few more years before she was able to compete with the already strong discus team of East Germany. She stood in the shadows of Martina Hellmann (who she only beat at the 1986 European championship). For a long time she trained with Gabriele Reinsch, the world record holder since July 1988 when she threw 76.80 meters. Dragana Tomašević ( sr-cyr, Драгана Томашевић; born 4 June 1982, in Sremska Mitrovica) is a Serbian discus thrower. Since 8 August 2006, she is holder of the Serbian national record in Discus Throw with her personal best shot of 63.63 m. Career Early in her career Dragana competed in Shot Put, without any major success. In her primary discipline, Discus Throw she competed in four Olympic Games, eight World Championships and six European Championships. Her best result in these competitions is 6th place at the 2010 and 2018 European Championships, while her best finish in World Championships is 7th place in 2005 and 2011, respectively. Liliana da Silva Cá (born 5 November 1986) is a Portuguese athlete specialising in the discus throw. At club level she represents Sporting Lisbon. Career Cá won a silver medal at the 2018 Mediterranean Games. She had a five-year break in her career between 2013 and 2018 to raise children.
