2018 American Ultimate Disc League Season
The 2018 American Ultimate Disc League season was the seventh season for the league. The Madison Radicals won the championship, the team's first. Rowan McDonnell of the DC Breeze won league MVP after the season. Offseason The Vancouver Riptide was the lone team to cease operations after 2017, with plans to move the team to Portland, Oregon and rejoin the league for the 2019 season. Seattle Cascades (AUDL)
The Seattle Cascades are a professional ultimate team that competes in the Western Division of the American Ultimate Disc League ( AUDL) with an open roster. They also compete as a mixed squad in various exhibition games. The team is named after the mountain range that runs through the Pacific Northwest and their mascot is a sasquatch (bigfoot) named Casey. The team's stated core values are integrity, community, and athletic excellence. The club first competed in 2015 as an open AUDL team, and added a mixed roster in 2017 and a women's roster in 2018. The women's team, which competes in the Western Ultimate League (WUL), changed its name to the Seattle Tempest in 2020. The Nashville NightWatch were a professional ultimate team from Nashville, Tennessee playing in the South Division of the American Ultimate Disc League. The team was founded in 2015 and folded after the 2018 season. History Breaking gender barriers The Raleigh Flyers made news in 2015 by signing the first ever female professional ultimate player, Jessi Jones, to play in their game against the Nashville NightWatch as part of "Women's Ultimate Day". The NightWatch went a step further in 2017 by rostering Jesse Shofner from the beginning of the season. New York Empire (AUDL)
The New York Empire is an ultimate team in the American Ultimate Disc League based in New York City. The team is in the East Division of the league, and won its first AUDL title in 2019 and its second in 2022. The Empire played its first season in 2013. History At the beginning of the Empire's history in late 2012, the team almost did not come to fruition, as part-owner Cullen Shaw almost took his Ultimate ownership interest to Major League Ultimate because of a pending AUDL lawsuit against the Connecticut Constitution and Rhode Island Rampage. However, Shaw kept with the AUDL and the Empire because of lower ownership costs and more abilities as a team owner. The Empire's first tryout, in January 2013, attracted 60 players, more than other teams holding initial tryouts. The Chicago Union is a professional ultimate team that competes in the Central Division of the American Ultimate Disc League. The team was originally branded as the Windy City Wildfire. In their first year, the Wildfire had the best record in the then-Midwest Division and qualified for the playoffs in its first three seasons. The Atlanta Hustle is a professional ultimate frisbee franchise based out of Atlanta, Georgia, United States. They compete as one of 25 teams in the American Ultimate Disc League (AUDL), playing in the league's South Division. 2015 season The Hustle finished the season 10-4 and tied for second in the division with the Jacksonville Cannons, both behind the Raleigh Flyers. The Oakland Spiders are a professional ultimate team based in Oakland, California. The Spiders are members of the West Division of the American Ultimate Disc League (AUDL). The team was founded as the San Jose Spiders in 2014 when the league expanded to the west coast, and played under that name until moving to Oakland in 2022. The Montreal Royal is a professional ultimate franchise based in Montreal, Quebec, Canada. They are members of the Eastern Division of the American Ultimate Disc League (AUDL). The team was the second Canadian franchise to join the AUDL, after the Toronto Rush. The Royal play their home games at Claude-Robillard Sports Complex in Montreal, Quebec. They played their inaugural game on April 19, 2014, where they hosted the Toronto Rush and lost by a score of 22-14. In this game, the Royal broke the AUDL attendance record previously held by the Rush with more than 3,000 fans.
