The 2018 1. deild karla (English: ''Men's First Division'') is the 64th season of second-tier Icelandic football. Twelve teams contest in the league. The season began on 5 May and will conclude on 22 September. Teams The league is contested by twelve clubs. Eight remained in the division from the 2017 season, while four new clubs joined the 1. deild karla: * Víkingur Ó. and ÍA were relegated from the 2017 Úrvalsdeild, replacing Fylkir and Keflavík who were promoted to the 2018 Úrvalsdeild. * Njarðvík and Magni were promoted from the 2017 2. deild karla, in place of Leiknir F. and Grótta Grótta () is a tied island at the extreme end of Seltjarnarnes in the Capital Region of Iceland. Brynjar Björn Gunnarsson (born 16 October 1975) is an Icelandic former footballer who last played for KR as a midfielder. Ásvellir is a sports venue in Hafnarfjörður, Iceland with a gym, pool, basketball court and football field. Two decades ago in 1996 a company and the Hafnarfjörður council signed an agreement to subsidize the construction of the complex. Finished in 1999, it started to host tournaments in 2000. Laugardalsvöllur () is Iceland's national football stadium and the home venue for the Iceland national football team. It is in Reykjavík with a capacity of 9,800. History The idea of building a sport venue in Laugardalur, along with some other entertainment facilities, dates back to 1871. At that time, the population of Reykjavík, the capital of Iceland, was only about 2,000. Laugardalur was also nearly 3 km (1.9 mi) away from residential areas. Little came out of this proposal the next 60 years or so. In 1943, the town council set up the Laugardalsnefnd committee. Its task was to make proposals and ideas for the area.
