2017–18 World Rugby Women's Sevens Series
The 2017–18 World Rugby Women's Sevens Series was the sixth edition of the World Rugby Women's Sevens Series, global circuit for women's national rugby sevens teams, organised by World Rugby. There were five tournament events scheduled on the 2017–18 circuit and twelve teams competed in each tournament. Format Twelve teams compete at each event. The top-ranked teams at each tournament play off for a Cup, with gold, silver and bronze medals also awarded to the first three teams. Lower-ranked teams at each tournament play off for a Challenge Trophy. The overall winner of the series was determined by points gained from the standings across all events in the season. Portia Woodman
Portia Woodman-Wickliffe (née Woodman; born 12 July 1991) is a New Zealand rugby union player. She plays fifteen-a-side and seven-a-side rugby union, and is a member of the New Zealand women's national rugby union team (sevens), New Zealand Women's Sevens team and New Zealand women's national rugby union team, New Zealand Women's National Rugby Union team. Woodman was a member of the New Zealand Women's Sevens team when they won a gold medal at the 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo. Westhills Stadium
Starlight Stadium (formerly Westhills Stadium) is a 6,000 seat multi-purpose stadium in Langford, British Columbia, Canada. It is used by Pacific FC of the Canadian Premier League for soccer, by Rugby Canada for various events, and by the Westshore Rebels junior Canadian football team. In an international context, its most notable usage is as the site of the Canada Women's Sevens, an event in the World Rugby Women's Sevens Series for national rugby sevens teams. The stadium also hosted the BC Bears of the Canadian Rugby Championship from 2009 to 2013, and the Victoria Highlanders soccer team from 2009 to 2011. 2018 Hong Kong Women's Sevens
The 2018 Hong Kong Women's Sevens acted not only as a qualifier for the 2018–19 World Rugby Women's Sevens Series, but also for seeding purposes for the 2018 Rugby World Cup Sevens for five of the teams. The tournament was played on 5–6 April 2018 with pool stage matches played at So Kon Po Rec Ground with knock-out stage matches played at the Hong Kong Stadium in Hong Kong alongside the 2018 Hong Kong Sevens for men. Continental qualifying Teams will qualify for the World Series Qualifier tournament based on continental championships. The top teams from each continent that are not already core teams will qualify. The 2017–18 World Rugby Sevens Series, known for sponsorship reasons as the HSBC World Rugby Sevens Series, was the 19th annual series of rugby sevens tournaments for national men's rugby sevens teams. Tyla Nathan-Wong
Tyla Nathan-Wong (born 1 July 1994) is a New Zealand professional rugby sevens representative and two-time Olympic medalist. She became a silver medalist at the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro and won a gold medal at the 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo. Biography In 2015 and 2019, Nathan-Wong was named New Zealand Sevens Player of the Year. She began playing rugby when she attended Lynfield College. Leyla Alev Kelter (born March 21, 1991) is an American rugby sevens and rugby union player. Emma Belle Gibson Sykes (October 8, 1885 – December 31, 1970) was a suffragist and civil rights activist. Biography Sykes née Gibson was born on October 8, 1885, in Christiana, Delaware. Naya Elena Tapper (born August 3, 1994) is an American rugby union player. She debuted for the in 2016. She was selected for the squad to the 2017 Women's Rugby World Cup in Ireland. Like most of her teammates Tapper began her rugby career while attending her first year of college at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. She majored in Exercise and Sport Science with a minor in Spanish. She was an All-American athlete at West Mecklenburg High School in Charlotte, North Carolina.
