The 2017–18 Tampa Bay Lightning season was the 26th season for the National Hockey League (NHL) franchise that was established on December 16, 1991. Off-season April On April 9, 2017, the Lightning's 2016–17 season came to an end when they defeated the Buffalo Sabres 4–2 at Amalie Arena. The Lightning were eliminated from playoff contention the night before when the Toronto Maple Leafs defeated the Pittsburgh Penguins 5–3. Atlantic Division (NHL)
The National Hockey League has used the name Atlantic Division for two distinct groups of teams. The original Atlantic Division, the predecessor of which was the Patrick Division, was formed in 1993 as part of the Eastern Conference in a league realignment. As part of a 2013 realignment, the entirety of the former Atlantic Division was realigned into the Metropolitan Division. The Atlantic Division name was assigned to a new division comprising the entirety of the former Northeast Division plus the Florida Panthers and the Tampa Bay Lightning (coincidentally, both were members of the original Atlantic Division until 1998) from the now-dissolved Southeast Division, and the Detroit Red Wings, who moved from the Central Division of the Western Conference. The 2016–17 Tampa Bay Lightning season was the 25th season for the National Hockey League (NHL) franchise that was established on December 16, 1991. Despite earning 94 points, the Lightning failed to qualify for the 2017 Stanley Cup playoffs since 2013, ending their three-season playoff streak. Off-season May On May 25, 2016, the Lightning signed a one-year affiliation agreement with the Kalamazoo Wings of the ECHL. Kalamazoo will serve as the Lightning's primary ECHL affiliate starting with the 2016–17 season. Erie Otters
The Erie Otters are a Major junior ice hockey team based in Erie, Pennsylvania. They are members of the Midwest division of the Ontario Hockey League (OHL), one of only three American teams in the circuit. The team name refers to the North American river otter common to Lake Erie. History The Erie Otters were previously located in Niagara Falls, Ontario, where they were called the Niagara Falls Thunder. The Tampa Bay Lightning (colloquially known as the Bolts) are a professional ice hockey team based in Tampa, Florida. The National League (NL) is a professional ice hockey league in Switzerland and is the top tier of the Swiss league system. Prior to the 2017–18 season, the league was known as National League A. During the 2018–19 season, the league had an average of 6,949 spectators per game which is the highest among European leagues (ahead of the KHL with 6,397 and the DEL with 6,215). The Genève-Servette HC (also called Servette or GSHC) is a professional ice hockey club based in Geneva, Switzerland and competing in the National League (NL), the top tier of the Swiss hockey league system. 2017 IIHF World Championship
The 2017 IIHF World Championship, the 2017 edition of the annual Ice Hockey World Championships, was held from 5 to 21 May 2017 in Cologne, Germany and Paris, France. Tanner Richard (born 6 April 1993) is a Canadian-born Swiss professional ice hockey centre who is currently playing for Genève-Servette HC of the National League (NL). He previously played for the Tampa Bay Lightning of the National Hockey League (NHL). Boris Katchouk (born June 18, 1998) is a Canadian-Russian professional ice hockey winger for the Chicago Blackhawks of the National Hockey League (NHL). Katchouk was drafted in the 2016 NHL Entry Draft in the second round (44th) by the Tampa Bay Lightning. Early life Katchouk was born on June 18, 1998, in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada to Russian parents, Yelena Tumanova and Viktor Katchouk, and grew up alongside his two older brothers, Alex and Yuri. His mother Yelena represented the Soviet Union in speed skating at the 1988 Winter Olympics.
