2017–18 Serie A2 Basket
The 2017–18 Serie A2 season, known for sponsorship reasons as the Serie A2 Old Wild West, is the 44th season of the Italian basketball second league Serie A2 Basket. The season started on September 29, 2017, and will end in June 2018 with the last game of the promotion playoffs finals. Rules The season is composed of 32 teams with a regional subdivision in two equal groups of sixteen, East and West. Each team plays twice each team in its subgroup, the first ranked team of each group then plays the eighth ranked team of the other group (e.g. East No. 1 against West No. 8), then the second best against the seventh, and so on, to form a promotion playoffs (for one place) of sixteen teams. Pallacanestro Trieste 2004 is an Italian professional basketball club based in Trieste. They play in the Lega Basket Serie A (LBA) since the 2018–19 season. The Allianz Dome serves as the club's home arena. History A number of Trieste teams had played in the first division Serie A, the most successful of which was Società Ginnastica Triestina (from the 1930s to the 1960s) that won several national championships in the 1930s and 1940s. Three other top division Trieste sides were Lega Nazionale Trieste (1949-1951), San Giusto Trieste (1948-1949) and Polizia Civile Trieste (1949-1950). Tortona (; pms, Torton-a , ; lat, Dhertona) is a ''comune'' of Piemonte, in the Province of Alessandria, Italy. Pallacanestro Virtus Roma, commonly known as Virtus Roma, was an Italian professional basketball club based in Rome, Lazio. It competed in the first division of Italian basketball, the LBA, for the last time in the 2020–21 season. It was formerly a major side in Europe, winning the 1983–84 FIBA European Champions Cup ( EuroLeague), and at one time being one of only 13 clubs to hold a EuroLeague A license. Nuova AMG Sebastiani Basket Rieti, sometimes designed as NSB, was an Italian professional basketball based in Rieti, Lazio though it played one season (the 2009-10 season, its last) in Napoli, Campania.
