The 2017–18 FIS Cross-Country World Cup was the 37th official World Cup season in cross-country skiing for men and women. The season began on 24 November 2017 in Ruka, Finland and ended on 18 March 2018 in Falun, Sweden. Johannes Høsflot Klæbo
Johannes Høsflot Klæbo (born 22 October 1996) is a Norwegian cross-country skier who represents Byåsen IL. He holds multiple records, most notably for being the youngest male in history to win the FIS Cross-Country World Cup, the Tour de Ski, a World Championship event, and an Olympic event in cross-country skiing. During the 2019–2020 World Cup season, Klæbo became the most successful male sprinter in World Cup history in terms of individual race victories and set a new record for the most overall sprint titles, with 4. He is currently the most successful male overall race winner in the competition's history. Klæbo won three gold medals at the 2018 Winter Olympics, in his debut Olympic appearance. Rukatunturi
Rukatunturi ( fi, Ruka) is a high fell and a ski resort in Kuusamo, Finland. Apart from downhill skiing, there are over 500 km of cross-country skiing tracks. Also snowmobiles can be rented to enjoy some of the area's 600 km of snowmobile routes (of which 100 km are safari organizers' private routes). Ruka is also the southern end of the Karhunkierros hiking trail. The total of trails in Ruka and Kuusamo area is: 160 km of hiking trails, 605 km of biking routes, 350 km of classified paddling routes (including class 1–4 whitewater paddling) and 100 km of boating routes. In winter 1954, the first slope, now called "Eturinne" ("Front Slope"), was opened. The current number of slopes is 29, operated with 20 ski lifts (one high-speed detachable chair with bubble). Sergey Aleksandrovich Ustiugov (russian: Сергей Александрович Устюгов; born 8 April 1992) is a Russian Cross-country skiing (sport), cross-country skier, Olympic champion, world champion and Tour de Ski winner. Career Early career In 2001, Sergey Ustiugov started practicing cross-country skiing in the biathlon section of the sports school of Mezhdurechensky, Khanty-Mansi Autonomous Okrug, Mezhdurechensky. Martin Johnsrud Sundby (born 26 September 1984) is a former Norwegian cross-country skier who competed between 2003 and 2021. He is a two time Olympic champion at the 2018 Winter Olympics in the team sprint and relay and was also a silver and bronze medalist in the 30 km skiathlon in 2014 and 2018. Sundby is a 4-time world champion, winning his sole individual gold medal at the 15 km at the 2019 Nordic World Ski Championships in Seefeld. Hans Christer Holund
Hans Christer Holund (born 25 February 1989) is a Norwegian cross-country skier who represents Lyn. Holund won the 10 km classical at Junior World Championships in 2008, and debuted in the FIS Cross-Country World Cup in Lahti on 8 March 2009. At the Norwegian National Championships in 2016, Holund was on the SFK Lyn team with Jonas Udjus Frorud and Simen Hegstad Krüger that won the 3 × 10 km relay. Matti Heikkinen
Matti Heikkinen (born 19 December 1983 in Kajaani) is a Finnish former cross-country skier and World Champion who competed from 2002 to 2019. Career Heikkinen won his first World Championship at the FIS Nordic World Ski Championships 2011 in Holmenkollen 2011. Winning 15 km, he is the first Finnish men's World Champion for over a decade. He also won two bronze medals at the FIS Nordic World Ski Championships 2009 in Liberec, earning them in the 15 km and 4 × 10 km relay events. In December 2009, Heikkinen took his first World Cup victory on the 15 km freestyle event in Davos. Heikkinen finished fifth in the 4 × 10 km relay at the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver, Canada. Maurice Manificat (born 4 April 1986) is a French cross-country skier who has competed since 2004. Career He has achieved three World Cup victories, in Lahti (March 2010), in Canmore (December 2012), both in the 15 km + 15 km double pursuit event, and in Davos (December 2017), in 15 km freestyle. Manificat also finished 47th in the 15 km + 15 km double pursuit event at the FIS Nordic World Ski Championships 2009 in Liberec. Iivo Henrik Niskanen (born 12 January 1992) is a Finnish cross-country skier who has competed in the FIS Cross-Country World Cup since 2011. He is a three-time Olympic champion. Career Iivo Niskanen made his individual World Cup debut on 12 March 2011, when he became 69th in a 20 km skiathlon in Lahti, Finland. Didrik Tønseth (also spelled Toenseth, born 10 May 1991) is a Norwegian cross-country skier and runner. Biography Tønset has competed in the World Cup since the 2011–12 season. He represented Norway at the FIS Nordic World Ski Championships 2015 in Falun. Known for his classic technique, Tønseth proved to be equally adept at freestyle, proving this in the 30 km where he was the sole Norwegian with a shot at a medal.
