2017–18 Eastern Washington Eagles Men's Basketball Team
The 2017–18 Eastern Washington Eagles men's basketball team represented Eastern Washington University during the 2017–18 NCAA Division I men's basketball season. The Eagles were led by first-year head coach Shantay Legans and played their home games at Reese Court in Cheney, Washington as members of the Big Sky Conference. They finished the season 20–15, 13–5 in Big Sky play to finish in a tie for third place. At the Big Sky tournament they defeated Portland State and Southern Utah to advance to the championship game where they lost to Montana. They were invited to the College Basketball Invitational where they lost in the first round to Utah Valley. Previous season The Eagles finished the 2016–17 season 22–12, 13–5 in Big Sky play to finish in second place. As the No. 2 seed in the Big Sky tournament, they defeated Sacramento State in the quarterfinals before losing to Weber State in the semifinals. Shantay Legans
Shantay Andrade Legans (born July 30, 1981) is an American college basketball coach who is currently men's basketball head coach at Portland Pilots men's basketball, Portland. Legans grew up in Goleta, California and played college basketball at California Golden Bears men's basketball, California and Fresno State Bulldogs men's basketball, Fresno State. He briefly played professional basketball in the Netherlands before beginning a coaching career. From 2007 to 2009, Legans was an assistant coach at the Laguna Blanca School. Legans then was an assistant coach at Eastern Washington under head coaches Kirk Earlywine and Jim Hayford during a period where Eastern Washington turned around from a losing program to one of the top teams in the Big Sky Conference. Eastern Washington promoted Legans to head coach in 2017 after Hayford resigned for another job. 2017 College Basketball Invitational
The 2017 College Basketball Invitational (CBI) was a single-elimination tournament of 16 National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division I teams that did not participate on the 2017 NCAA Men's Division I Basketball Tournament or the NIT. The opening games were held on March 15 and the quarterfinals were held on March 20 on campus sites. After the quarterfinals, the brackets were reseeded for the semi-finals which was held on March 22. A best of three championship series closed out the tournament on March 27, 29, and 31. The 2017 NBA draft was held on June 22, 2017, at Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York. Newport, Washington
Newport is a city in and the county seat of Pend Oreille County, Washington, United States. The population was 2,126 at the 2010 census. History Newport was given its name in 1890 because it was selected as a landing site for the first steamboat on the Pend Oreille River. Newport was officially incorporated on April 13, 1903. Jacob Wiley (born September 4, 1994) is an American-born naturalized Macedonian professional basketball player for Shiga Lakes of the Japanese B.League. College career Wiley played college basketball for the Montana Grizzlies, Lewis–Clark State Warriors, and Eastern Washington Eagles. He primarily plays the forward position. During his first and only year at Montana, he averaged a very discouraging 1.0 point and 3.0 minutes per game with Montana, including tying a team-high 5 points in a blowout 81–34 2013 NCAA tournament loss to Syracuse.
