The men's discus throw at the 2017 World Championships in Athletics will be held at the Olympic Stadium on . Summary The first throw of the final was a personal best by American Mason Finley, 67.07 metres. It only held the lead for two throwers until Andrius Gudžius threw 67.52 metres. Those held up through the round. At the start of the second round, Finley added almost another metre to his personal best, throwing 68.03 metres. The next thrower, world leader Daniel Ståhl went better throwing 69.19 metres. The next thrower was Gudžius, who edged two centimetres further with a 69.21 metres. Those three throws at the start of the second round were the medals. No other athlete came within two metres of Finley for bronze. Frantz Kruger (born 22 May 1975 in Kempton Park, South Africa) is a South African born Finnish discus thrower who won the Olympic bronze medal in 2000. He is also a double African champion. His personal best throw of 70.32 metres, achieved in May 2002 in Salon-de-Provence, is the current African record. He was married to Finnish former triple jumper Heli Koivula Kruger (divorced 2016), and received Finnish citizenship in 2007. Benn Harradine
Benn Harradine (born 14 October 1982) is a retired Australian discus thrower who competed at three consecutive Olympic Games, starting in 2008. Harradine made the final of the discus at the 2006 Commonwealth Games in Melbourne where he finished eighth. He went on to win the 2010 Commonwealth title. His 5th-place finish at the 2011 World Championships is the best ever finish by an Australian man in the event. He announced his retirement after the 2018 Commonwealth Games in Gold Coast where he finished sixth. He has broken the Australian record three times, his personal best being 68.20 metres thrown in Townsville in May 2013. He is an indigenous athlete from the Wotjobaluk tribe in the Wimmera district of Victoria. He cites land rights activist Vincent Lingiari as one of the people he admires. Ben Plucknett
Walter Harrison ("Ben") Plucknett (April 13, 1954 in Beatrice, Nebraska – November 17, 2002 in Essex, Missouri) was an American track and field athlete, known primarily for the discus throw. Plucknett qualified for the 1980 U.S. Olympic team but was unable to compete due to the 1980 Summer Olympics boycott. He did however receive one of 461 Congressional Gold Medals created especially for the spurned athletes. In 1981, he broke the existing world record with a throw of 233'7", and broke the record again with a throw of 72.34 m (237'4") on July 7, 1981. However, on July 13, 1981, the International Association of Athletics Federations banned Plucknett from further competition after he had tested positive for anabolic steroid use, and the records were removed.
